Naomichi Hirano OAM
Naomichi Hirano OAM says his recent recognition within The King’s Birthday 2025 Honours list “has deepened my sense of belonging and reaffirmed Australia is truly my home”.
He is the president and founder of the Japan Community of Queensland Inc, is public relations officer at the Japanese Society of the Gold Coast, is a police liaison officer at the Queensland Police Service and is a member of the advisory board at the Multicultural Queensland Social Network.
“As a migrant, I experienced many challenges and moments of discrimination when I first arrived in Australia,” Naomichi says.
“I was fortunate to receive kindness and support from many Australians during those times.
“Australia is a wonderful country for migrants, and I believe it becomes even stronger when we extend a helping hand to others who are finding their way in a new environment. That belief continues to motivate me every day.”
For his work, Naomichi was awarded the Medal of the Order for service to the Japanese community of Queensland.
Naomichi says his recognition will have a significant personal impact, but spans more broadly than himself alone.
“Recognition provides encouragement and strengthens our sense of connection with one another,” he says.
“In my case, this honour is not only about my personal efforts, but also about the support and collaboration of my friends, colleagues, and family. Without them, this achievement would not have been possible.
“I will continue to serve the community with the same commitment and passion that has guided me throughout the years.”
