Overview

The Official Secretary to the Governor-General is a statutory office. The Official Secretary and their office support the Governor-General to carry out his constitutional, statutory, ceremonial and public duties.

Biography – Mr Paul Singer MVO

The Official Secretary to the Governor-General, Mr Paul Singer MVO.

Paul Singer commenced as the Official Secretary to the Governor-General on 18 August 2018. He oversees the provision of advice and support to the Governor-General in the conduct of his constitutional, ceremonial and community roles.

Mr Singer previously served as Deputy Official Secretary to the Governor-General, and before that, held a number of roles at Government House.

Mr Singer was previously a Warfare Officer in the Royal Australian Navy and enjoyed postings in several classes of HMA Ships, including destroyers, frigates, submarines and patrol boats. During his Navy career, Mr Singer was awarded commendations for his leadership of specialist maritime teams responsible for enforcing United Nations sanctions during the Iraq conflict.

As the recipient of the Leadership for Social Impact scholarship at the University of Sydney, Mr Singer completed an Executive Master of Business Administration in 2018. In 2015, Mr Singer was selected to attend CSCLeaders – a unique leadership program for 100 exceptional leaders from across the Commonwealth to tackle challenges and build a network of enduring global relationships. In 2016, he was appointed a Member of the Royal Victorian Order.

Mr Singer is also General Manager and co-founder of Make A Mark Australia (MAMA), a nongovernment organisation that focuses on empowering children in impoverished communities to achieve their full potential through improved access to education and economic independence.
