Own recognition inspiration to nominate others
Dr Cathy Oke OAM says it is important to nominate others for recognition within the Order of Australia.
She was recognised in the January 2023 Australia Day Honours for service to local government, and to the environment.
“To be considered for the Order of Australia is obviously an honour,” she says. “I was a little taken aback, and then clearly thankful to whomever it was that nominated me, and to my family and colleagues for their support.”
Dr Oke says it is important to nominate others for recognition within the Order of Australia.
“I have personally nominated, or supported a nomination bid, for three amazing women in recent times. And they all received awards. I meet and work with many people doing amazing things for our communities every day.
“In receiving this award, it reminded me to get on with nominating, or facilitating the nomination of more great Australians.”
