Pauline McKinnon OAM

Counsellor, psychotherapist and author Pauline McKinnon was inspired by those who came before her.

“My motivation continues as it arose: as a young mother in the 1960s I became overwhelmed with acute anxiety following a number of bereavements within our family along with other stressful situations,” she explains.

“It took many years searching for a solution until, by happenstance, I met with Australian psychiatrist Ainslie Meares and was introduced to his unique form of therapeutic meditation.

“With others in mind, I took the initiative to publish my first book … In Stillness Conquer Fear, and Dr Meares invited me to teach others what I had learned from him.”

Pauline established the Stillness Meditation Therapy Consultancy in 1983. She is also a clinical member of the Australian Association of Family Therapy and founding patron and former president of the Meditation Association of Australia. She is also a strong supporter of the Anxiety Disorders Association of Victoria.

For her work, Pauline was awarded the Medal of the Order for service to community health through relaxation and meditation in The King’s Birthday 2025 Honours list.

She says she was overjoyed when she reflected on the work which led to her recognition.

“Through my books and the passion I have for my work, I sincerely believe that I have contributed significantly to the health, wellness and natural ‘stress management’ of a great many people within Australia and internationally.

“Testimony to that are the many affirming responses I have received since the award was announced – but the award also emphasises the importance of the work I have maintained for over 40 years – work which empowers people by natural means, to attain the better, calmer lives they deserve.

“The recognition makes me somewhat ‘busier’ at an age when many would have long retired … but I will continue to deliver and promote the work in which I specialise, because I simply love sharing something so positive and seeing people’s lives improve accordingly.”
