Professor Jennifer Westacott AC

The contributions and impact of Professor Jennifer Westacott AC span many fields and have touched the lives of many across the country.

Professor Westacott is deeply influential in the education sector as Chancellor of Western Sydney University, Chair of Studio Schools of Australia and a Distinguished Advisor at the Australian National University. She is also Chair of Western City and Aerotropolis Authority and Future Generation Global, non-executive Director of Wesfarmers, and Director of ATCO Australia and ATCO Gas Australia.

For six years, she was also Chair of Mental Health Australia, becoming Patron in 2019.

For her enduring contribution to the nation and beyond, she was appointed a Companion of the Order for eminent service to business, to tertiary education administration, to the mental health sector, and to the community.

“It means an enormous amount to me to be recognised for the things that I feel passionate about, such as mental health, and to achieve Australia’s highest civilian honour is something that fills me with tremendous pride,” Professor Westacott says.

“[The recognition] encourages you to keep doing whatever you can to make a positive contribution to Australia and to always try and have a positive impact with everything you do.

“The award demonstrates that people value the contribution, so it gives you even greater momentum.”

Professor Westacott says there are several things that continue to keep her motivated.

“I see so much disadvantage and injustice in our community,” she explains.

“I also see the potential that people can realise when they are given opportunities.

“So, I am motivated by participating in sectors such as the university sector, in business, and in the mental health sector where you can take actions to address injustice, and to create a system where people’s potential is realised and rewarded.”
