Visit to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

On Wednesday 7 May 2014, at the R.G. Casey building, Barton, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), as guest of the Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr Peter Varghese AO, met with staff and visited the Consular Crisis Centre.

Afterwards, at Government House, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove received the Director, National Gallery of Australia, Mr Ron Radford AM.

International Nurses and Midwives Week Remembrance ceremony; Farewell dinner for Lieutenant General Ash Power AO CSC

On Tuesday 6 May 2014, at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Director, Australian War Memorial, the Honourable Dr Brendan Nelson, and the ACT Chief Nurse, Ms Veronica Croome, attended the International Nurses and Midwives Week Remembrance ceremony.

Afterwards, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, received the Secretary, Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, Dr Ian Watt AO.

Australian Secret Intelligence Service

On Monday 5 May 2014, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), received the Chancellor, Order of St John, Professor Mark Compton AM, and the CEO, St John Ambulance Australia, Mr Peter Le Cornu.

Afterwards, the Governor-General, as guest of the Director-General, Mr Nick Warner AO PSM, visited the Australian Secret Intelligence Service.

Later, the Governor-General received the Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Julie Bishop MP.

Visit to the Fred Hollows Foundation; Waverley College Annual May Procession

On Sunday 4 May 2014, at Rosebery, Sydney, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Founding Director, Ms Gabi Hollows AO, visited the Fred Hollows Foundation.

Afterwards, at Waverley College, Waverley, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Headmaster, Mr Ray Paxton, attended the Annual May Procession.

On Thursday 1 May 2014, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), received the High Commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Island, the Honourable Alexander Downer AC.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received the Administrator of the Northern Territory, Her Honour the Honourable Sally Thomas AC.

Presentation of the Gloucester Cup

On Wednesday 30 April 2014, at the Navy Heritage Centre, Fleet Base East, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove attended a Parade at which the Governor-General, as Commander-in-Chief, presented the Gloucester Cup to the Commanding Officer of HMAS Huon, Lieutenant Commander Jace Hutchison RAN, in recognition of the Ship’s exceptional performance during 2013.

Campaign Rio Forum

On Tuesday 29 April 2014, at Sydney Olympic Park, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chair, Australian Sports Commission, Mr John Wylie AM, attended the Campaign Rio Forum at which the Governor-General delivered the keynote address.

Governor-General address to Campaign Rio Forum

The Governor-General addressed Olympic and Paralympic coaches and performance leaders at the Campaign Rio Forum in Sydney. Campaign Rio is a collaboration of the Australian Institute of Sport, the Australian Olympic Committee and the Australian Paralympic Committee to ensure Australia’s Olympic and Paralympic teams are the best planned, best prepared and best performed at the Rio Games in 2016.
