On Friday 20 June 2014, in Katherine, Northern Territory, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chief Executive Officer, Dr Marion Scrymgour, visited the Wurli-Wurlinjang Health Service.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the President, Kalano Community Association, Mr Ian Woods, visited the Kalano Community Market Gardens.
At Wurli-Wurlinjang Health Service, Katherine, as guests of the CEO, Dr Marion Scrymgour, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove met with directors and staff of the clinic, which provides culturally-appropriate health care services to over 4,500 Indigenous people living in the Katherine area.
At the Kalano Community Market Gardens, Katherine, as guests of the President, Kalano Community Association, Mr Ian Woods, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove visited one of three community market gardens, which employs 25 Katherine locals and supplies tomatoes and corn to the local supermarket.
At Katherine High School, as guests of Mr Gerard Neesham OAM, CEO, Clontarf Foundation, the Governor-General, as Patron, and Lady Cosgrove met with students and teachers, and viewed Clontarf Foundation programs, which aim to improve the education, discipline, life skills, self-esteem and employment prospects of young Aboriginal men.
At Top Didj Cultural Experience, Katherine, as guests of Jawoyn elder and resident Aboriginal artist, Mr Manuel Pamkal, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove experienced cultural activities including fire lighting and spear throwing, and viewed Indigenous paintings.
At Flinders Street Medical School, the Katherine campus of the Northern Territory Remote Clinical School, as guests of the Manager, Flinders Northern Territory Medical Program, Ms Monica Barolits-McCabe, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove met with medical and social work students and teaching staff.
At the Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts and Cultural Centre, Katherine, as guests of the Mayor, Alderman Fay Miller, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended a community reception.
On Thursday 19 June 2014, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), received the Prime Minister, the Honourable Tony Abbott MP.
In the afternoon, at RAAF Base Tindal, Northern Territory, the Governor-General, as Commander-in-Chief, and Lady Cosgrove, received an operational brief and base overview from the Senior Australian Defence Force Officer, RAAF Base Tindal, Wing Commander Mark Larter.
At RAAF Base Tindal, Katherine, Northern Territory, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove visited 75 Squadron, home of Australia's F/A-18 Hornet fighters, as guests of the Senior Australian Defence Force Officer, RAAF Base Tindal, Wing Commander Mark Larter, and the Commanding Officer, 75 Squadron, Wing Commander Peter Mitchell OAM.
On Wednesday 18 June 2014, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, hosted a ceremony at which the Governor-General administered the Oath of Office to the Administrator of the Territory of Norfolk Island, the Honourable Gary Hardgrave, and the Deputy Administrator of the Territory of Norfolk Island, Ms Robyn Fleming.
