Association for the Wellbeing of Children in Healthcare; UN Women Australia

On Wednesday 10 October 2012, at Admiralty House, Sydney, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO received the UNIFEM Peach Scholar, Ms Nasima Rahmani, and UNIFEM Past President, Ms Rosalind Strong AM.

Afterwards, the Governor-General, as Patron, and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE hosted an afternoon tea to mark the 25th anniversary of the Association for the Wellbeing of Children in Healthcare Ward Grandparent Scheme.

In the evening, the Governor-General, as Patron, and Mr Bryce hosted a reception for UN Women Australia.

Governor-General marks 25th anniversary of the AWCH Ward Grandparent Scheme

The Governor-General, as Patron of the Association for the Wellbeing of Children in Healthcare, joined organisation’s volunteers and supporters to mark the 25th anniversary of the AWCH Ward Grandparent Scheme at Admiralty House, Sydney.

Speaking at the event, Ms Bryce commended the skill, experience and generosity of the volunteers who are dedicated to the care of children in hospitals.

Governor-General hosts an event for UN Women's Spring Campaign “Don’t be a Bystander: Say NO to Violence Against Women”

At Admiralty House in Sydney, the Governor-General expressed her admiration for the work of UN Women Australia and its supporters in tackling violence against women.

Ms Bryce, as Patron, hosted an event to support the organisation’s Spring Campaign, “Don’t be a Bystander: Say NO to Violence Against Women”.

Later, the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce met guests, including the President of UN Women Australia, Ms Donelle Wheeler, and Executive Director, Ms Julie McKay.

Investiture Ceremony at Admiralty House

In a brief ceremony at Admiralty House in Sydney, the Governor-General, as Chancellor of the Order of Australia, invested Mr Akio Mimura AC as an Honorary Companion in the General Division of the Order of Australia.

Mr Mimura was recognised for his eminent service to strengthening and advancing the Australia-Japan bilateral trade and economic relationship.

The Governor-General commended Mr Mimura’s vital work in strengthening the two nations’ economic relationship, especially through his role as Chairman of the Japan-Australia Business Cooperation Committee.

Asia Pacific World Sport and Women Conference; Victorian College for the Deaf

On Monday 8 October 2012, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO, as guest of the Chair of the Advisory Board, Ms Margot Foster, delivered the opening address at the Asia Pacific World Sport and Women Conference.

Afterwards, at the Victorian College for the Deaf, the Governor-General, as guest of the Chief Executive Officer of Deaf Children Australia, Mr Damian Lacey, attended a morning tea and met with staff and students.

On Sunday 7 October 2012, at the Langham Hotel, Melbourne, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO, as Patron of the Australian Womensport and Recreation Association, received the President, Ms Janice Crosswhite OAM; Board Member, Ms Heather Reid; and Project Convenor, Ms Julie Sarll.

Brunei-Australian Memorial, Royal Regalia Museum

On Thursday 4 October 2012, at Muara Beach, Brunei, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, attended a wreath laying ceremony at the Brunei-Australia Memorial.

Afterwards, at the Royal Regalia Museum, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, Pehin Hazair, viewed His Majesty the Sultan’s Royal collection.

Later, at Brunei International Airport, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce attended a ceremonial departure to mark the conclusion of their State Visit to Brunei.
