Governor-General visits the Federated States of Micronesia

During the first State Visit by an Australian Governor-General to the Federated States of Micronesia, Ms Bryce called on the President, His Excellency Mr Emanuel Mori.

Ms Bryce and President Mori discussed the important relationship between both countries, before participating in a tree planting ceremony.

Later, the Governor-General met the Speaker of the Federated States of Micronesia, Mr Isaac Figir, at Congress.

Governor-General visits the Federated States of Micronesia

The Governor-General joined students and residents creating local produce as part of the Island Food Community of Pohnpei (IFCP).

The non-government organisation has operated since 2004 and has received over US$52,000 from Australia in project grants.

Ms Bryce watched a presentation by local year six students before meeting organisation representatives involved in IFCP projects.

Governor-General visits the Solomon Islands

The Governor-General concluded her visit to eight neighbouring Pacific countries in eight days, arriving in Honiara, Solomon Islands.

Ms Bryce received a Ceremonial Challenge by Solomon Island warriors before inspecting a Guard of Honour at Henderson International Airport in Honiara.

The Governor-General called on the Governor-General of the Solomon Islands, His Excellency Sir Frank Kabui, before travelling to Parliament House, where she addressed hundreds of Solomon Island women at the ‘Stori Weitem Olketa Meri’ Women’s Leadership Forum.

On Monday 2 April 2012, at Griffith, Yenda, Barellan and Narrandera, the Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, met with families, children, emergency service workers and volunteers in flood affected areas.

Earlier, at the Government Offices, Nauru, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO, as guest of the President of the Republic of Nauru, His Excellency Mr Sprent Dabwido, attended a ceremonial welcome.

The Governor-General visits the Federated States of Micronesia

The Governor-General touched down at Pohnpei International Airport to begin a State Visit to the Federated States of Micronesia, as the first representative Head of State and Australian Governor-General to visit the country.

The Governor-General was greeted by the President of the Federated States of Micronesia, His Excellency Mr Emanuel Mori, and received a Ceremonial Welcome at the airport before attending a State Reception hosted by the President.

Governor-General visits Nauru

The Governor-General visited the Republic of Nauru as part of her continuing visits to Australia’s Pacific neighbours.

Ms Bryce received a Ceremonial Welcome and a police Guard of Honour on her arrival at the Government Offices before meeting with the President of the Republic of Nauru, His Excellency the Honourable Sprent Dabwido.

The Governor-General also called on the Speaker of Parliament, the Honourable Ludwig Scotty and viewed the Parliamentary Chamber.

On Sunday 1 April 2012, at St George Cathedral, Redfern, the Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, attended a Memorial Service for the late Dr Morven Dan.

In the afternoon, at the Great Synagogue, Sydney, the Administrator attended a concert performed by the Woollahra Philharmonic Orchestra.

Earlier, at the Protestant Temple, Noumea, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO, attended a Palm Sunday Church Service.

Governor-General visits New Caledonia

The Governor-General joined traditional leaders and politicians at a lunch hosted by the President of Congress, Mr Roch Wamytan, at the Villa of the Congress of New Caledonia in Noumea.

Ms Bryce later visited the Tjibaou Cultural Centre and received a Customary Welcome. In the evening, the Governor-General attended a reception for Australian and New Caledonian business representatives at the Residence of the Australian Consul-General, Ms Heidi Bootle.

The Governor-General continued her visit to Australia’s Pacific neighbours in in Noumea, New Caledonia, after visiting Tonga, Kiribati, Samoa and Tuvalu. During her visit, Ms Bryce paid her respects on behalf of all Australians at Place Bir Hakeim, Noumea, as part of a military and wreath laying ceremony at the memorial. The Governor-General also attended an event hosted by the President of Government of New Caledonia, Mr Harold Martin, at Hotel Kuendu Beach in Nouville.
