Later, the Governor-General and Her Excellency Mrs Marlena Jeffery received the Vice President of the Wattle Day Association, Mr Jack Fahy. Mr Fahy was accompanied by the Principal, Aranda Primary School, Ms Cherie Lutton; and Aranda Primary School students, Miss Julia Lonsdale and Master Eli Bell.

On Thursday 28 August 2008, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, His Excellency Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC received from His Royal Highness Crown Prince Tupouto'a-Lavaka, Letters of Commission accrediting him as the High Commissioner for the Kingdom of Tonga. The High Commissioner was accompanied by Mr Va'inga Tone (Secretary for Foreign Affairs) and Mr Leimoni Taufu'I (Deputy High Commissioner-designate) High Commission for the Kingdom of Tonga.

On Tuesday 26 August 2008, at Parliament House, Canberra, Their Excellencies, the Governor-General Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC and Mrs Marlena Jeffery, attended a ceremony at which the Governor-General administered the Oath or Affirmation of Allegiance to Senators elected to serve in the Senate from 1 July 2008.

In the evening, at Parliament House, Their Excellencies, as guests of honour, attended a Farewell Reception and Dinner hosted by the Prime Minister, the Honourable Kevin Rudd MP and Ms Therese Rein, on behalf of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia.

On Friday 22 August 2008, at Government House, Perth, the Administrator, His Excellency Dr Ken Michael AC and Mrs Julie Michael hosted a morning tea in honour of the visit to Western Australia by the President of the Worldwide Educative and Cultural Society of Kastellorizians (Athens), Professor Evagelos Hadjiyannakis and Mrs Hadjiyannakis.
