A wonderful celebration with family and friends
Pamela Hamory OAM has no regrets in stepping forward to accept her Medal of the Order of Australia at her recent Investiture Ceremony, despite admitting to doubts at first.
“Being ‘pushed forward’ like this was a little bit daunting initially, but then humbling. And when we heard what others had been nominated for … it is quite expansive and awe inspiring.”
Ms Hamory says the Investiture Ceremony was a wonderful celebration in the company of friends and family.
“It was just an absolutely beautiful day. Magic.”
Acknowledging people’s contributions to our community is important, she says.
“It makes those people who make the difference in society stand out just that little bit more as a model, particularly to our youngsters.”
“And as a First Nations person, you have that as a bolster, that you can be recognised.”
She says she will nominate others for an Order of Australia.
“I know a couple of people, but they don't want that recognition. Yet when it happens, I'm sure they'd be gracious enough to accept the nomination.”
Pamela Hamory OAM was invested in the Order of Australia at the Spring 2023 ceremonies at Government House, Canberra.
