Governor-General's video message transcript:
"Hello, I am speaking to you today from Government House in Canberra, on the lands of the Ngunnawal people, where I pay my respects to elders, past and present.
On National Wattle Day, I am proud to congratulate the most recent recipients of Australian Bravery Decorations.
This is the second Bravery list to be released on Wattle Day -- named in 1992 for our national floral emblem -- continuing the tradition established last year to unite one of Australia’s important national days with our recognition and celebration of acts of extraordinary bravery.
In 2026, we also celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Bravery Garden at Government House in Canberra.
Established by former Governor-General Sir William Deane in 2001, after he visited Gallipoli, the garden is a site of quiet contemplation and commemoration.
Earlier this year, I spent time in the Bravery Garden with John Easthope, the landscape designer who worked with Sir William to realise his vision of garden as a place of symbols and special plantings, inspiring visitors to honour the valour and courage of people who, when faced with danger, chose to help someone in need.
Sir William described bravery as a tide that flows from the values we must cherish and pass on to the future.
In 2026, Australians continue to show resilience and courage and care when putting themselves in danger to protect the lives and property of others.
Removing others from dangerous circumstances, including beach and sea rescues, motor vehicle accidents and other treacherous and, often, unimaginable situations, the Australians we honour on this list remind us of the strength and depth of the human spirit.
I want to send a special message of thanks to those for whom an act of courage has left physical or emotional wounds that endure long after the moment of danger has passed.
In 2026, three Bravery Decorations will be awarded posthumously, two to individuals who lost their lives performing acts of great courage.
I offer my deepest condolences, on behalf of all Australians, to their families, friends and communities who are grieving their loss, and honouring their memory.
And, to all the brave Australians we honour today, thank you for your selfless and determined courage.
I look forward to meeting many of you at investiture ceremonies, and in communities across the country, in the years ahead."
