Patronages

The Governor-General and Mrs Hurley serve as Patron of organisations who do amazing things each and every day.

As Patrons they take an active role by promoting organisations, celebrating staff, supporters and volunteers, attending events and hosting groups at Government or Admiralty House.

The work of these groups is diverse but there is a unifying characteristic - they are made up of hardworking and selfless Australians who strive each day to make their communities better.

Collectively, their contribution is immense and the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley are proud to support their work.

Governor-General

ACT Veterans Rugby Union

The ACT Veterans Rugby Union has provided organised games of Rugby Union to the gentlemen (over 35) of the ACT and surrounding districts since 1995 (25 years).  During that time they have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local charities.

Antarctic Science Organisation

The Antarctic Science Foundation builds partnerships and raises funds to; advance the protection and understanding of the Antarctic, sub-antarctic, and Southern Ocean research and its impact.

ANZAC Health and Medical Research Foundation

The ANZAC Research Institute is a biomedical research institute with a focus on ageing and improving the future health and medical care for the Australasian community.

Arthritis Australia

Arthritis Australia is the national peak consumer voice for people living with all forms of arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions, comprising around 180 different conditions and affecting around 7 million Australians.

Australasian College of Road Safety

The Australasian College of Road Safety (ACRS) seeks to reduce  road trauma. 

Australia Britain Society Foundation

The Foundation seeks to further the cultural relations between Australia and Great Britain.

Australia India Youth Dialogue

The Australia India Youth Dialogue brings outstanding young leaders in Australia and India together to create enduring relationships and to collaborate on initiatives that create sustainable outcomes for both countries.

Australian Association of Gerontology

The Austrlaian Association of Gerontology's multidisciplinary approach, connecting research, policy and practice, is improving the experience of ageing in Australia.

Australian Bravery Association

The Bravery Association maximises the support available to members in our community who conduct themselves bravely to save life, property or the environment and thereby experience physical, emotional or other personal hardship.

Australian Council for Human Rights Education

The Australian Council for Human Rights Education supports human rights education in Australia in response to the UN Decade on Human Rights Education. Through advocacy, programs and seminars, they promote the importance of education and civil society in understanding and responding to Human Rights, in Australia and around the world.

Australian Council of Stoma Associations Incorporated

The Australian Council of Stoma Associations Incorporated represents the interests of 21 national Stoma Associations and approximately 46,000 Australians living with the disability of a 'stoma'. Their focus is to promote the wellbeing of persons who are living with a stoma and to assist their return to as normal quality of life as possible following ostomy surgery.

Australian Federation of Friends of Museums

The Australian Federation of Friends of Museums supports the volunteers, fundraisers and advocates of Museums, Galleries, and Libraries ranging from small community based regional organisations to large state institutions. We do this through advice, scholarships, mentoring, workshops and newsletters.

Australian Indigenous Education Foundation

Bringing together government and private sectors, AIEF provides scholarship funding for Indigenous students to complete Year 12/tertiary studies, with support to help them make a successful transition to their chosen fields.

Australian Institute of Health & Safety The Australian Institute of Health & Safety's vision is safe and healthy people in productive workplaces and communities. Everything They do is about shaping workplace health and safety now and in the generations to come.

Australian Institute of International Affairs

The Australian Institute of International Affairs promotes interest in and understanding of international affairs in Australia. It provides a forum for discussion and debate, arranges programs of lectures, seminars, workshops, conferences and other discussions, and sponsors research and publications. 

Australian Institute of Project Management

The Australian Institute of Project Management is the premier, longest-serving body for project management in Australia. They are recognised by Australian business, industry and government as the key promoter, developer and leader in project management professionalism.

Australian Red Cross

The Australian Red Cross save lives and supports people before and after disasters strike. They work to alleviate suffering and assist our most vulnerable community members.

Australian Rotary Health

With one in five Australians affected by depression, anxiety, schizophrenia or another illness, medical research into mental health has never been more important. That is why the work of Rotary Health Australia, its staff and supporters is so critical. By funding research into mental health as well as scholarships for PhD candidates, rural medicine and nursing, and Indigenous Health students, Rotary Health is helping to create a better Australia.

Australian Veterans Children Assistance Trust

The Australian Veterans' Children Assistance Trust awards and manages tertiary education scholarships for the children and grandchildren of Australian ex-serving men and women.

Austswim

AUSTSWIM is Australia’s national organisation for the teaching of swimming and water safety. AUSTSWIM has developed quality aquatic education programs for those wishing to enter the aquatic industry as a teacher of swimming and water safety.

Battle for Australia Commemoration Council

The Battle for Australia (the first Wednesday in September) is a proclaimed Commemoration Day. The Day is an opportunity to remember not only all those who gave their lives but to the host of servicemen and women who were prepared to give their lives for Australia.

Beyond Blue supports all Australians to experience their best possible mental health and to prevent suicide.

Carers Australia

Carers Australia is the national peak body for people in Australia who provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness, an alcohol or drug issue, or who are frail aged.

Children’s Medical Research Institute

Scientists and researchers at the Children's Medical Research Institute i perform cutting-edge research related to developing treatments and cures for devastating diseases in children.

Commonwealth Games Australia

Commonwealth Games Australia exists to administer, control and coordinate the participation of program sports and their respective athletes and officials in the Commonwealth Games. 

Confederation of Australian Sport

Confederation of Australian Sport represents the interests of our nation’s 90+ National Sporting Organisations with a particular focus on the charter of ‘Sport for All’. 

Constitutional Education Fund The Constitutional Education Fund plays an important role in trying to improve civics education directed to promoting and enhancing the awareness of our national Constitution and the important institutions of our representative democracy.

Council of Ambulance Authorities

The Council of Ambulance Authorities, the peak body representing 10 statutory ambulance services in Australia and New Zealand, is driving the World Restart A Heart Day Campaign. The global initiative seeks to stem the death toll from sudden cardiac arrest. 

Cure Cancer Australia Foundation

Cure Cancer fund early-career cancer researchers who are working across all cancers and all areas of cancer research. Our vision is to make this the last generation to die from cancer.

Dementia Australia

Dementia Australia is a unified, national peak body for people, of all ages, living with all forms of dementia, their families and carers. It is the new voice of Alzheimer's Australia.

Down Syndrome Australia

Down Syndrome Australia is a not-for-profit body for people with Down syndrome in Australia that influences social/policy change, provides a national voice for people living with Down syndrome, and builds resource and knowledge capacity of State/Territory Down syndrome associations. 

Ex-Prisoners of War Association

Old age and the effects of past imprisonment are taking their toll and of the 30,000+ World War 2 Ex-POWs who were fortunate enough to return home.  Less than 100 are currently still with us.

First Voice

First Voice is an association of charitable organisations who provide listening and spoken language early intervention services to over 1000 Australian children who are deaf or hard of hearing and their families.

Foundation of National Parks and Wildlife

LBW Trust

Legacy is a charity providing services to Australian families suffering after the injury or death of a spouse or parent, during or after their defence force service. 

Legacy Club of Canberra

The Legacy Club of Canberra offers social engagement, advocates for entitlement rights and benefits, provides welfare, financial and educational assistance to Legacy youth.

Life Education is the largest non-government provider of health education to children and young people, Australia wide. With a vision of 'Generations of healthy young Australians living to their full potential', our mission is to 'empower our children and young people to make safer and healthier choices through education.'

Lung Foundation Australia

The Lung Foundation supports research and programs to reduce the prevalence of lung disease and cancer and improve support and care. Their mission is to ensure lung health is a priority for all - from promoting lung health and early diagnosis, to supporting people with lung disease.

Migrant and Refugee Settlement Services Australia

Migrant and Refugee Settlement Services Australia is a leader in the provision of settlement and related services for migrants, refugees and humanitarian entrants.

Mission Australia

Mission Australia delivers evidence-based, client-centred community services across Australia with the goal of reducing homelessness and strengthening communities. They work with families and children, young people, and older people experiencing homelessness and also provide services for those with mental health, alcohol and drug issues and those with disability.

MS Australia

MS Australia is the national peak body for Australians living with MS. They work closely with the state MS societies to help connect people with MS to the right support and services.

National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse

NAPCAN’s mission is to promote the safety and wellbeing of children and young people through the prevention of violence, abuse and neglect. NAPCAN's strategic priorities include influencing social change, enabling communities to act and maximising organisational capacity.

National Rifle Association Australia

The National Rifle Association of Australia is a Sporting body, affiliated with Australia’s peak shooting body “Shooting Australia”. 

Naval Association of Australia The Naval Association of Australia promotes mateship, community spirit, Australia and the Royal Australian Navy. It began life in 1920 as the Ex-Navalmen's Association and in 1960 changed its name to The Naval Association of Australia.

Paralympics Australia

Paralympics Australia promotes the values of the Paralympic movement around inclusion, resilience, equity and respect. We use the inspirational stories of Para-athletes to demonstrate these values and create awareness of the inclusive benefits of sport for people with disability. We are also responsible for preparing and supporting the Australian Paralympic Summer and Winter Teams for the Paralympic Games.

Polocrosse Association of Australia

The Polocrosse Association of Australia comprises of members in the states of Queensland, New South Wales, ACT, Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory. It is uniquely an Australian sport (having started in the 1930s) and with campdrafting and Aussie Rules, one of the three sports to which Australia can lay claim - it's now played internationally.

Project Independence

Established in 2010 and with two years of experience successfully operating the two current homes, Pl is becoming recognised as an innovator in both the housing and ID sector. We are about to start a third development in Phillip ACT which is scheduled to commence in early 2019, with another two ACT projects under discussion and funding to support the progress of the project in Melbourne. There is significant interest in the development of additional homes beyond these not only in the ACT but also in Queensland, the NT, Victoria and NSW.

Additionally, the Pl housing model is seen as an innovation that could be applied more broadly to areas of home ownership inequity with the model lending itself to other disadvantaged home ownership groups, such as older women without any superannuation or savings, or families escaping domestic violence

Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia

Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia is a broad based community organisation dedicated to reducing the impact of prostate cancer on Australian men, their partners and families.

Returned and Services League of Australia

The purpose of the RSL is to help veterans and their families by offering care, financial assistance and advocacy, along with commemorative services that help all Australians remember the Fallen.

Royal Australian Regiment Foundation

The Foundation strengthens The Royal Australian Regiment through support to the professional development and welfare of the Regiment and its serving members and their families.

Royal Life Saving Australia

The Royal Life Saving Society –Australia has an immeasurable impact on reducing drowning and promoting safe aquatic activity for all through drowning prevention, lifesaving, and swimming and water safety programs in communities across Australia, with emphasis on those at risk of drowning such as rural and regional, Indigenous Australians, children, and CALD communities.

Royal Societies of Australia

RSA offers a national approach to intellectual discourse in Australia through the promotion of the efforts of Australia's Royal Societies. It provides a valuable framework for coordinating educational and research-related activities and the discussion of vital policy issues and initiatives affecting the community at large.

Rugby Australia

Rugby Australia is the governing body of rugby union in Australia. Rugby Australia has eight member unions, representing each state and territory and manages Australia's national rugby union teams, including the Wallabies.

Sailing is for Everyone Foundation

S4e's philosophy is to promote the inclusion of people of all abilities, all ages, from all social and financial backgrounds, into the healthy activity of sailing with a focus on allowing those with disabilities to participate in mainstream activities.

School Aid

SchoolAid 'empowers young philanthropists' and, among other things, has Australia's first crowdfunding platform for young people.

The Menzies Foundation works to inspire and nurture Australia's future leaders and focuses on entrepreneurship in science, supporting school leaders to dramatically improve student learning outcomes and supporting international law specialists response to complex global issues with a focus on cyber security.

Spinal Cord Injuries Australia

The Thomas Kelly Youth Foundation promotes the prevention of harm through social and behavioural change. Their vision is to make Australia a kinder country achieved through a social movement that advocates for social conversations and acts of kindness. Our mission is to reduce bullying, violence, hazing, substance abuse and youth suicide.

Stroke Foundation

The Stroke Foundation's vision is a world free from disability and suffering caused by stroke. They work to increase focus on prevention, better access to time critical stroke treatment and support for survivors to make their best recovery.

Sydney International Piano Competition

The Deaf Society is one of Australia’s leading providers of specialist services for deaf, deaf, blind and hard of hearing people and their families. 

The Order of Australia Association

The Order of Australia Association promotes the Australian Honours System as a means of celebrating the achievements and contribution of outstanding Australians. Members of the Association participate in events recognising the Order and new recipients of awards.

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists

The RANZCP is responsible for training, educating and representing psychiatrists in Australia and New Zealand. RANZCP takes a leading role in the mental health sector and provides expert advice to inform mental health policy, practice and administration.

The Royal Commonwealth Society of the ACT INC

The Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS) is a network of individuals and organisations committed to improving the lives and prospects of Commonwealth citizens around the world. 

The Royal Humane Society of Australasia  The Royal Humane Society of Australasia gives public recognition to acts of bravery by bestowing bravery awards on those who risk their own lives in saving or attempting to save the lives of others.

The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust

The Trust has the objective of perpetuating and honouring the memory of Winston Churchill by the award of Churchill Fellowships, which allow Australians with an opportunity to travel overseas to conduct research in their chosen field and return to share their findings.

TPI Federation Australia

Integra Service Dogs Australia

Integra Service Dogs Australia sources, trains and places Labrador Assistance Dogs to ADF Veterans, ADF members in service and First Responders clinically diagnosed with PTSD as a result of their operational service. Integra's core mission is to contribute to the reduction of veteran suicide and self-harm through developing extraordinary and life-long training relationships between a Handler and their Assistance Dog.

Lions Australia

Lions Clubs contribute to humanitarian causes including disaster relief and response, medical research and treatment, positive citizenship and leadership development, environmental initiatives and a helping those most at need.

National Heart Foundation of Australia

The Heart Foundation funds life-saving heart research and work to improve heart disease prevention and care for all Australians. The Heart Foundation is dedicated to making a real difference to the heart health of Australians.

Peer Support Australia 

Peer Support Australia provides schools with professional development, support and guidance to address school wellbeing and implement our student wellbeing programs. Placing students at the centre of their learning, we empower them with practical skills and strategies to positively navigate life and relationships

Pinchgut Opera

Pinchgut Opera is Australia’s only baroque opera company. They encourage a love of opera through unique and world-class performances. 

Playgroup Australia

Playgroup Australia is the leading voice for families with children learning through play, supporting and connecting the playgroup community. Playgroup is a universal service, accessible to everyone in the community. 

Rotary Districts and Clubs of Australia Emergency Services Community Awards

Rotary District and Clubs of NSW Emergency Services Community Awards (RESCA) is the only time all Emergency Services personnel, both paid and volunteer, are recognised in a combined awards program. 

Royal Far West

Since 1924, Royal Far West has connected country kids to the healthcare they need and couldn’t otherwise access. Their integrated health, education and disability services are delivered through a combination of residential, remote (via technology) and in-community programs.

Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children

RIDBC has pioneered research, education, care and treatment in our field since 1860 in Australia. Every year we provide services to more than 9000 adults and children - along with support for their families and carers. Specialist education and therapy for children, equipping them to lead independent and productive lives, are amongst our most important services.

Soldier On

Soldier On delivers a range of services to contemporary veterans, and their families. Soldier On currently supports just over 3000 veterans and family members at any given time in eight locations across Australia.

The Children's Book Council of Australia

The CBCA aims to engage the community with literature for young Australians and presents annual awards to books of literary merit by Australian creators. The CBCA brings children and books together celebrating CBCA Book Week, and works in partnership with authors, illustrators, publishers, booksellers and other organisations in the children’s publishing.

The Kids' Cancer Project

The Kids Cancer Project improves outcomes for kids with cancer is through medical research. Their focus is to find better treatments, build capabilities and develop survivorship programs.

The Opera Foundation for young Australians

The Opera Foundation for Young Australians is passionate about providing international opportunities for young Australians in the field of Opera to enhance the quality of opera in Australia when our winners return to the Australian Stage.

United Nations Association of Australia

The UNAA promotes the work of the UN through programs on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), climate change, refugees, peace and security, human rights and through our Model UN conferences and UN Study Tours.

War Widows Guild of Australia Inc.

The War Widows Guild of Australia supports all widows and families of ex-service men, advocating for their rights and benefits and advocates for improvements in legislation which impact on widows and families.

UN Women National Committee Australia

A global champion for women and girls, UN Women is the United Nations entity responsible for promoting women’s empowerment and gender equality and was established to accelerate progress to meet the needs of women and girls worldwide.

Canberra Hospital Foundation

The Canberra Hospital Foundation supports Canberra Hospital and Health Services to achieve its vision of a caring, world-class health and healing service. We provide funds to support research, refurbishment; programs such as Delta Dogs, Musical Therapy; and non-essential equipment. 

Cancer Council ACT

The Cancer Council ACT promotes a healthier community by reducing the incidence of cancer through funding cancer research and education and providing support to people affected by cancer.

Cystic Fibrosis

CFA supports the broad cystic fibrosis community through Advocacy, Research and Clinical Improvement funding. CFA is committed to improving clinical practice and patient outcomes with the aim of extending life expectancy from 37 to 50 years by 2025.

Defence Widows Group

The Defence Widows Group is a sub-group of the ACT Branch of the Defence Force Welfare Association. Members of the DWG understand exactly what it is like to lose a partner, and understand the newly bereaved’s background and situation. 

Friends of the School of Music - ANU

The Friends of the School of Music iprovides practical and financial support to students of the Australian National University School of Music. We advance musical endeavours within the School and help foster its engagement with the Canberra community.

L'Arche Genesaret

L’Arche Genesaret is a community of people with and without intellectual disability, supporting 23 adults with a disability in seven homes.  L’Arche households are supported by live-assistants or home-sharers, live-out assistants, community members, friends and family. 

Moorambilla Voices Ltd

Moorambilla Voices seeks to empower children and youth to think big, dream wide and connect to country through our exceptional yearly program of skills development workshops, cultural interactions, residences, tours, recordings and performances. 

National Council of Women Australia

NCWA is a national organisation dedicated to the advancement of women and their families.

Paint the Town REaD Ltd

Paint the Town REaD is an early literacy community scheme that uses a collective impact model to encourage communities across Australia to read with children from birth. Our focus is to facilitate the development of local groups to support their children in achieving this goal.
