Governor-General and PoW families mark the 67th anniversary of the Sandakan Death Marches

The Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce joined families of World War II Sandakan Prisoners of War for an afternoon tea at Government House in Canberra.

It was a day of remembrance for Ms Bryce, Mr Bryce and the family members as they marked the 67th anniversary of the last Death March that departed from Sandakan.

The Governor-General previously travelled to Sandakan in 2010 to mark the 65th anniversary of the Death Marches.

King of the Kingdom of Tonga; Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand

On Monday 28 May 2012, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO, received the King of the Kingdom of Tonga His Majesty King Tupou VI, Her Majesty Queen Nanasipau’u and Her Royal Highness Princess Angelika.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received the Australian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand, Mr James Wise.

Later, the Governor-General received the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, Her Excellency Ms Yingluck Shinawatra.

President of the Portuguese Republic; National Indigenous Youth Parliament

On Friday 25 May 2012, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO received the Prime Minister of Australia, the Honourable Julia Gillard MP.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE received the President of the Portuguese Republic, His Excellency Professor Aníbal António Cavaco Silva and the First Lady, Dr Maria Cavaco Silva.

President of the Portuguese Republic; National Indigenous Youth Parliament

On Friday 25 May 2012, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO received the Prime Minister of Australia, the Honourable Julia Gillard MP.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE received the President of the Portuguese Republic, His Excellency Professor Aníbal António Cavaco Silva and the First Lady, Dr Maria Cavaco Silva.

Governor-General meets participants from the National Indigenous Youth Parliament

The Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce met students involved in the first National Indigenous Youth Parliament at a reception at Government House, Canberra.

Fifty Indigenous youth leaders from across Australia attended the event on the eve of their youth parliamentary debates in the House of Representatives Chamber at Old Parliament House.

The event marked the 50th anniversary of the Indigenous right to vote in federal elections.

Federal Executive Council; Dinner in Honour of HRH The Duke of Gloucester

On Thursday 24 May 2012, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO presided at a meeting of the Federal Executive Council.

Earlier, the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE received the Prince and Grand Master of the Order of Malta His Most Eminent Highness Fra Matthew Festing OBE.

In the evening, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce received the Grand Prior of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem, His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester KG GCVO.
