On Thursday 11 August 2016, in Ñuñoa, Chile, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the President, Ms Afrodita Koronios, visited the Australian-funded San Nectario Foundation school for children with autism and dysphasia.

Afterwards, at the Pre-Colombian Art Museum, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Director, Dr Carlos Aldunate del Solar, viewed the exhibition funded by Australian business, ‘Chile before Chile’.

On Wednesday 10 August 2016, in Santiago, Chile, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove were welcomed to the Republic of Chile by the Australian Ambassador to Chile, His Excellency Mr Timothy Kane.

Afterwards, in Las Condes, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended a bilateral briefing with Ambassador Kane.

On Tuesday 9 August 2016, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), attended a breakfast for Australian and Argentine business representatives.

Afterwards, at Plaza San Martin, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, accompanied by the Argentinian Minister for Foreign Affairs and Worship, Minister Susan Malcorra, laid a wreath at the General San Martin Monument.

Later, at the Palacio San Martin, the Governor-General met with the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Worship, Minister Malcorra.

On Monday 8 August 2016, at Government House, Brisbane, the Administrator, His Excellency the Honourable Paul De Jersey AC, received from the Australian Electoral Commission the Writs for the election of Members of the House of Representatives from each of the States and Territories, together with the Writs for the election of Senators from the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory.

On Monday 8 August 2016, at the Uruguay Peacekeeper Training Centre, Montevideo, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), as a guest of the Director, National System for the Support of Peacekeeping Operations, General Carlos Sequeira, visited the Uruguay National School for Peacekeeping at which the Governor-General addressed a class of international students.

Afterwards, at the Supreme Court of Justice, the Governor-General met with the President of the Uruguayan Supreme Court of Justice, Dr Ricardo Pérez Manrique.

On Sunday 7 August 2016, at Montevideo Carrasco International Airport, Uruguay, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove were welcomed to the Oriental Republic of Uruguay by the Australian Ambassador to Uruguay, His Excellency Mr Noel Campbell and the Uruguayan Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Rodolfo Nin Novoa.

Afterwards, at Estancia La Constancia, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Mr Carlos Sapelli and Mrs Ana Gutierrez, attended a traditional Parilla lunch.

On Saturday 6 August 2016, at Lagoa Stadium, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), as Patron of the Australian Olympic Committee, and Lady Cosgrove, supported Australian rowers competing in the Women’s Single Sculls and Men’s Pair heats.

Afterwards, at Copacabana Beach, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended the Women’s Beach Volleyball match between Australia and Costa Rica, which the Australian pairing of Louise Bawden and Taliqua Clancy won in two sets.

On Friday 5 August 2016, in Botafogo, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, attended a lunch for Australians working and living in Brazil.

Afterwards, at Itamaraty Palace, Centro, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Interim President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, His Excellency Mr Michel Temer, attended a reception for visiting Heads of State and Heads of Government.

On Thursday 4 August 2016, at Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Director and Founder, Ms Helena Rocha, visited the Australian-funded Pipa Social project.

Afterwards, in Morro da Urca, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove visited Sugar Loaf Mountain.

On Wednesday 3 August 2016, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove received a bilateral briefing from the Australian Ambassador to Brazil, His Excellency John Richardson.

Afterwards, at the Athletes Olympic Village, Barra da Tijuka, the Governor-General, as Patron of the Australian Olympic Committee, and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Chef de Mission, Ms Kitty Chiller, attended the team’s INSPIRE session, at which the Governor-General addressed the Australian Olympic Team.
