Afternoon tea for Global Voices Youth Delegates; Reception for the 2013 National Schools Constitutional Convention

On Wednesday 20 March 2013, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO received the President of the Australian Human Rights Commission, Professor Gillian Triggs.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, hosted an afternoon tea for youth delegates from the Global Voices program.

Later, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce hosted a reception for attendees of the 2013 National Schools Constitutional Convention.

Governor-General meets Global Voices youth delegates

The Governor-General met 26 Global Voices youth delegates during an event at Government House, Canberra.

The Global Voices program promotes the engagement of young Australians with international diplomacy and policy in Australia and overseas.

Participants will attend international events this year including the Global Security Conference, the G20 Youth Summit and meetings of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues.

Governor-General welcomes participants of the 2013 National Schools Constitutional Convention

Over 120 students attending the 2013 National Schools Constitutional Convention in Canberra met the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce at Government House.

Ms Bryce, who previously met delegates in 2011, spoke with the years 11 and 12 students about their exploration of the role of the Constitution in Australia’s democracy.

Belconnen Community Services Seniors Expo

On Tuesday 19 March 2013, at the Belconnen Community Centre, Belconnen, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO, as guest of the President of Belconnen Community Services, Mrs Gillian Boyd, attended the inaugural ‘Your Community Our Community Seniors Expo,’ as part of Seniors Week 2013.

Afterwards, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General received the Minister of National Defence for the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, General Phung Quang Thanh, and the Minister for Defence, the Honourable Stephen Smith MP.

Governor-General welcomes the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar

The Governor-General hosted a Ceremonial Welcome for the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, His Excellency U Thein Sein, at Government House, Canberra.

President Thein Sein received a 21-gun and national salute before inspecting Australia’s Federation Guard and the Royal Military College Band. Ms Bryce also introduced President Thein Sein to ACT Scout representatives at the ceremony.

Later, the Governor-General held formal talks with the President and hosted a lunch in honour of his State Visit to Australia.

Afternoon tea for the Australian Arab Women Leaders’ Dialogue

On Sunday 17 March 2013, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO hosted an afternoon tea in support of the inaugural Australian Arab Women Leaders’ Dialogue.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received the Australian Ambassador to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Ms Bronte Moules.

Later, the Governor-General received the Executive Director of the Menzies Research Centre, Dr Don Markwell.
