On Thursday 31 January 2008, at Pyrmont, Sydney, NSW, the Governor-General, His Excellency Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC, toured the Sydney Fish Markets as a guest of the Managing Director, Mr Grahame Turk.

Afterwards, at Admiralty House, Sydney, the Governor-General received Dr Bruce Horsfield, Honorary Professor of Communication and Media Studies, Department of Mass Communication, Faculty of Arts, University of Southern Queensland.

On Wednesday 30 January 2008, at Manuka Oval, Manuka, ACT, Their Excellencies the Governor-General Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC and Mrs Marlena Jeffery, as guests of the Prime Minister, the Honourable Kevin Rudd MP, attended the Prime Minister's XI versus Sri Lanka cricket match and luncheon.

On Monday 21 January 2008, at Dove Lake, Cradle Mountain, Tasmania, Their Excellencies the Governor-General Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC and Mrs Marlena Jeffery attended the National Australia Day Council Dawn Ceremony, at which the Governor-General participated in a dialogue of reflection with the 2007 Australian of the Year Award Recipients, prior to Australia Day celebrations.
