Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol of the Kingdom of Thailand

On Wednesday 15 August 2012, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO received Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol of the Kingdom of Thailand.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received the Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Council of Social Services, Dr Cassandra Goldie.

Later, the Governor-General received the Ambassador-designate to the Republic of Austria, Mr David Stuart.

Governor-General attends science round table meeting

The Governor-General joined Nobel Laureate Professor Brian Schmidt, prominent Australian scientists and economists for a round table meeting held at Government House, Canberra, on how to capture the benefits of research in Australia.

Later, Ms Bryce and Professor Schmidt met a new generation of talented scientists from Australian universities and organisations and discussed their ambitions for the future of science.

The Governor-General commended their work and praised the continuing contributions they make to the field of science in Australia.

Governor-General launches the 2012 Today’s Skills: Tomorrow’s Leaders Program

The Governor-General, as Patron of Group Training Australia (GTA), launched the 2012 Today’s Skills: Tomorrow’s Leaders Program at Government House, Canberra.

Ms Bryce and Mr Michael Bryce met 21 apprentices and trainees from across Australia who are partaking in a week-long career development program held at the Australian Institute of Sport.

The Governor-General congratulated the participants on their commitment and involvement with the GTA program, which she described as opening up untapped potential through structure and discipline.

On Monday 13 August 2012, at Government House, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO received the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia, His Excellency Hassan Talat Nazer.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, hosted a reception to launch Group Training Australia’s 2012 Today’s Skills: Tomorrow’s Leaders Program.

Governor-General marks International Day of the World's Indigenous People

The Governor-General marked the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People with a visit to the Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health Service in Narrabundah, Australian Capital Territory.

Ms Bryce was welcomed by the CEO Ms Julie Tongs OAM and the Board of Directors before being taken on a tour of the Service to meet some of the 60 staff, including medical, counselling and health professionals.

Mt Isa School of the Air; Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health Service

On Thursday 9 August 2012, at Government House, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO received, Professor of Law of the Australian National University, Professor Margaret Thornton.

Afterwards, the Governor-General met with students from the Mt Isa School of the Air.

Later, at Narrabundah, the Governor-General, in recognition of the International Day of the World's Indigenous People and as guest of the Chief Executive Officer, Ms Julie Tongs OAM, visited the Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health Service.

The 70th anniversary of the Battle of Kokoda Commemorative Service

The Governor-General and veterans of the 39th Infantry Battalion joined together to reflect on the 70th anniversary of the World War II Battle of Kokoda at the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne.

Addressing the commemorative service, the Governor-General spoke of 39th Infantry Battalion’s selfless and courageous actions before laying a wreath in The Sanctuary. The 138 names of the Battle’s fallen were then read by veteran Mr George Cops.

After the service, Ms Bryce met veterans and family members in the Shrine’s Visitor Centre.
