Governor-General visits Timor Leste

The Governor-General travelled to Timor Leste to mark the 10th anniversary of independence and attend the inauguration of Taur Matan Ruak as the country's new President.

Ms Bryce took the opportunity to visit members of the International Stabilisation Force before the inauguration ceremony.

She presented the Australian Service Medal Timor Leste clasp to SGT Rhonda Hall during her visit to Camp Phoenix.

Timor-Leste Presidential Inauguration

In Dili to celebrate the 10th anniversary of independence , the Governor-General joined world leaders including the President of the Republic of Indonesia, His Excellency Dr Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, and the Governor-General of New Zealand, His Excellency Lieutenant General Sir Jerry Mateparae at the inauguration of the new President of Timor Leste, Taur Matan Ruak.

The midnight ceremony was followed by a flag raising event at the Presidential Palace on the following day - the first official function undertaken by the new President.

On Saturday 19 May 2012, following the departure of the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO on an official visit to Timor-Leste, the Proclamation assuming the Administration of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia was signed by the Governor of South Australia, His Excellency Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce AC CSC RANR.

Afterwards, at President Nicolau Lobato International Airport, Dili, Timor-Leste the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, attended a ceremonial welcome.

Governor-General of Tuvalu

On Friday 18 May 2012, at Government House, Canberra, Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as Patron, received the ACT Chapter President of the Australian Institute of Architects, Mr Tony Trobe.

Earlier, at Darwin International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the departure from Australia of the Governor-General of Tuvalu, His Excellency Iakoba Taeia Italeli, by Group Captain David Thiele ADC, Honorary Aide-de-Camp.

CAPITheticAL; Ethereal Eye

On Thursday 17 May 2012, at Old Parliament House, Canberra, Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as competition Ambassador, attended the announcement of shortlisted finalists for CAPITheticAL.

Afterwards Mr Bryce attended the performance of ‘Ethereal Eye’.

Earlier, at Brisbane International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the arrival in Australia of the Governor-General of Tuvalu, His Excellency Iakoba Taeia Italeli, by Colonel Dennis Scanlan CSM RFD ADC, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.

The Big Issue; Asylum Seeker Resource Centre; Reception for Centenary of Canberra

On Wednesday 16 May 2012, at the Big Issue Melbourne Headquarters, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of the Chair, Ms Sonya Clancy, and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Steven Perrson, met with staff and joined shift workers from The Big Issue’s Women’s Subscription Enterprise.

On Tuesday 15 May 2012, in Preston, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO, in recognition of International Families Day and as Patron of the Salvation Army, met with staff and residents at the Bridgehaven Centre, accompanied by Commissioner Raymond Finger and Commissioner Aylene Finger.

On Monday 14 May 2012, at Whitten Oval, Footscray West, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of the Vice-Chancellor of Victoria University, Professor Peter Dawkins, and Board Director of Spinal Cord Injuries Australia, Ms Michele Adair, attended a reception at which the Governor-General, as Patron, officially launched the Spinal Cord Injuries Australia ‘Walk On’ program in Melbourne.

Melbourne Citymission

On Sunday 13 May 2012, at Melbourne Citymission’s ‘The Precinct’, North Fitzroy, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of the Chief Executive Officer of Melbourne Citymission, Reverend Ric Holland, met with staff, clients and volunteers of the youth support programs.
