On Saturday 20 December 2008, at the Entertainment Centre, Townsville, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE attended a ceremony at which the Governor-General presented Cultural Sashes to graduating indigenous students of James Cook University and was then conferred with the degree of Honorary Doctor of the University.

On Friday 19 December 2008, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC received the Australian Ambassador-designate to the Republic of Korea, Mr Sam Gerovich.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received the Treasurer of the Commonwealth of Australia, the Honourable Wayne Swan MP. Later, the Governor-General received the Usher of the Black Rod, Ms Andrea Griffiths.

On Thursday 18 December 2008, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC received the Australian Ambassador-designate to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Mr Glenn White.

In the evening, the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE hosted a reception for Departmental Secretaries and Heads of Agencies.

On Tuesday 16 December 2008, at the residence of the Australian Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, His Excellency Mr Peter Heyward, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE attended a breakfast with members of the Australian community in Timor-Leste.

Earlier, in Woden, Canberra, Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as Patron of the Woden Senior Citizen's Club, officially opened Stage 1 of the Woden Seniors building development.
