On Friday 26 June 2009, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE received the Right Honourable Sir Zelman Cowen AK GCMG GCVO QC, 19th Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, and Lady Anna Cowen, who remained for lunch.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce attended a ceremony at which Sir Zelman Cowen officially opened the Zelman Cowen Room. In the evening, at the Melbourne Recital Centre, Melbourne, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce attended Daniel Harding Conducts.
