On Thursday 1 March 2012, at the Sydney Town Hall, the Administrator, Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO and Sir Nicholas Shehadie AC OBE, attended the ‘Sea of Blue’ street march to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the New South Wales Police Force, at which the Administrator received the official salute.

Earlier, in Queenstown, New Zealand, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of the Chairman, Sir Eion Edgar DCNZM and the Chief Executive Officer, Mr Charlie Phillips, visited the Queenstown Resort College.

The Governor-General opened the Margaret Olley Exhibition at Sotheby’s Gallery in Sydney.

On Wednesday 29 February 2012, at Government House, Sydney, the Administrator, Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, received the Ambassador of the Czech Republic, His Excellency Dr Hynek Kmonicek.

Afterwards, the Administrator, as guest of the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, attended the inaugural Monica O’Loughlin Women Against Heart Disease Lunch.

During her visit to Christchurch, the Governor-General visited the Burnham Military Camp on the outskirts of the city to learn about a unique program designed for troubled young people.

The Youth Development program takes young people through an intensive 6 week military training program, including 3 day marches and physical challenges including a fierce tug-of-war.

Just over a year since the second major earthquake hit New Zealand's second largest city, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce visited Christchurch to learn about the long reconstruction process.

Hosted by His Worship the Mayor of Christchurch, Mr Bob Parker (L) and the Minister for Canterbury Earthquake Recovery, the Honourable Gerry Brownlee, Ms Bryce laid a wreath before the Bridge of Remembrance before visiting the renewed Cashel Mall project.

On Tuesday 28 February 2012, in Albury, New South Wales, the Administrator, Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, as guest of the Principal, Mr Darryl Ward, attended a meeting with staff and students at Albury High School to discuss the challenges and issues facing students, including mental health and welfare.

In Wellington, a State Ceremony of Welcome took place at Government House for the Governor-General and Mr Bryce.

The ceremony included a traditional Maori Ceremony, or Wero, involving a challenge, and a Call of Welcome, or Karanga.

Following a Dance of Welcome, Ms Bryce took the Royal Salute before inspecting the Royal Guard of Honour. Children from the nearby St Marks Church School were special guests at the Ceremony.

In the New Zealand capital, the Governor-General paid her respects at the National War Memorial, where she laid a wreath in the Hall of Memories and placed a floral tribute on the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior.

At Government House in Wellington, the Governor-General received the Prime Minister of New Zealand, the Rt Honourable John Key and the Leader of the Opposition, Mr David Shearer MP.

In Wellington, the Governor-General visited the New Zealand Dance School Te Whae, where the students performed modern and classical pieces.

Many of the students are Australian, and Ms Bryce encouraged them to work hard and take their new skills around the world.
