On Sunday 27 May 2018 the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Mr Robert de Castella AO MBE, Director, Indigenous Marathon Foundation, met with the 2018 Indigenous Marathon Project Squad and members of the public at Lake Burley Griffin for the Reconciliation Run.

On Saturday 26 May 2018 the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, were farewelled from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam by His Excellency Mr Craig Chittick, Ambassador to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and His Excellency Mr Huynh Cach Mang, Vice Chairman, Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, at Ho Chi Minh City International Airport.

On Friday 25 May 2018 the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, attended a breakfast briefing with His Excellency Mr Craig Chittick, Ambassador to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and Ms Karen Lanyon, Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, at the Park Hyatt Saigon, in Ho Chi Minh City.

Afterwards, the Governor-General attended a meeting with His Excellency Mr Nguyen Thanh Phong, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, at the People’s Committee Building.

Hanoi, Vietnam; Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

On Thursday 24 May 2018, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, attended breakfast with the Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, His Excellency Nguyen Xuan Phuc, at the International Convention Centre, Hanoi.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove laid wreaths during ceremonies at the Monument of National Heroes and Martyrs, and at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum.

On Wednesday 23 May 2018, at Noi Bay International Airport, Hanoi, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, were welcomed to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam by His Excellency Mr Craig Chittick, Ambassador to Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and Mr Mai Phouc Dung, Chief of Protocol, Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove received a briefing from Mr Chittick.

On Monday 21 May 2018, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, hosted morning tea at Government House, Canberra, for the launch of National Palliative Care Week.

Afterwards, the Governor-General, as patron of Scouts Australia, and Lady Cosgrove, conducted an Investiture ceremony for the Chief Commissioner.

Earlier, the Governor-General participated in a video call with students from Pius X Catholic Primary School, WA, as part of their civics and citizenship class.

Sydney, NSW

On Saturday 19 May 2018, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, met with members of the public during the 2018 Admiralty House Open Day.

In the evening, Their Excellencies attended a rugby union match between the Waratahs and Highlanders, as guests of Mr Roger Davis, Chairman, NSW Rugby Union, at Allianz Stadium, Moore Park.

On Friday 18 May 2018, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, attended a dinner hosted by the High Commissioner of Canada, His Excellency Vice-Admiral Paul Maddison RCN (Retd) CMM MSM, at the Official Residence of Canada.

On Thursday 17 May 2018, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, hosted a lunch for the Australian Bravery Decorations Council at Government House. Guests included: Ms Fiona Birkett MVO, Dr Penelope Flett AO, Ms Libby Gregoric, Ms Teresa Hart PSM, Wing Commander Nick Hobson DFC AFC (Retd), Mr Robert Kennedy, Commissioner Dominic Lane AFSM, Mr Gerard Martin, Mr Jeremi Moule, Superintendent Sean Parnell OAM, Ms Carolyn Sladden, and Mr John Trevillian AM.

Townsville, QLD

On Wednesday 16 May 2018, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), as Commander-in-Chief, and Lady Cosgrove, attended a parade at Lavarack Barracks, Townsville, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Coral. At the parade, the Governor-General presented the new Regimental Colours to 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, and affixed a Unit Gallantry Citation streamer in recognition of the unit’s actions during the Battle of Coral in the Vietnam War.
