Call by the Prime Minister; Swearing-in of the Administrator of Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Islands

On Wednesday 1 October 2014, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), received the Prime Minister, the Honourable Tony Abbott MP.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, hosted a ceremony at which the Governor-General administered the Oath of Office of the Administrator of Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Islands to His Honour Mr Barry Haase.

National Police Remembrance Day service

On Monday 29 September 2014, in Brisbane, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), visited former Governor-General, the Honourable Bill Hayden AC.

Afterwards, at King’s Park, Canberra, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Acting Commissioner of the Australian Federal Police, Acting Commissioner Andrew Colvin APM OAM, attended the National Police Remembrance Day service at the National Police Memorial.

AFL Grand Final

On Saturday 27 September 2014, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chairman of the Australian Football League, Mr Mike Fitzpatrick, attended the 2014 AFL Grand Final.

Farewell Lunch for Flight Lieutenant Chris Cullen ADC

On Friday 26 September 2014, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), received the Moderator-General of the Presbyterian Church of Australia, The Right Reverend David Cook and Mrs Maxine Cook.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove hosted a farewell lunch in honour of Flight Lieutenant Chris Cullen ADC. Guests included: Squadron Leader Benjamin Abrahams; Flight Lieutenant Karen Brown; Mr Gerard Cullen and Mrs Sally Cullen; and Ms Brianna Cullen and Mr Mark Buffi.

Visit to the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital; Call by the Speaker of the Turkish Parliament; Dinner

On Wednesday 24 September 2014, at Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital, Melbourne, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chief Executive Office of Austin Health, Dr Brendan Murphy, and Mr Mark Johnston, received a presentation on the art therapy program and the concept for the Australian Veterans Arts Museum.

Presentation of the Royal Humane Society of Australasia’s ‘Clarke Medal’ for bravery

At Melbourne City Town Hall, VIC, the Governor-General, as Senior Patron of the Royal Humane Society of Australasia, and Lady Cosgrove attended a ceremony at which the Governor-General presented The Clarke Medal, for the most outstanding act of bravery, to Victorian Police Officer, Sergeant Daniel Burgess, who went to the rescue of a fisherman who had been washed off rocks and into the sea near Pyramid Rock, Phillip Island, on 14 January 2012.
