Commemorative service and military parade in recognition of the centenary of the start of the World War One

At George Square, Glasgow, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, representing Australia and its people, joined Commonwealth leaders including His Royal Highness The Duke of Rothesay for a commemorative service and military parade in recognition of the centenary of the start of the World War One, at which the Governor-General laid a wreath at the Cenotaph.

At Glasgow Cathedral, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, representing Australia and its people, joined Commonwealth leaders including His Royal Highness The Duke of Rothesay for a Commonwealth Commemorative Service in recognition of the centenary of the start of the World War One, at which the Governor-General delivered a reading.

Federal Executive Council; Visit to the United Kingdom; Commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the commencement of the First World War

On Monday 4 August 2014, at Government House, Canberra, the Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia, His Excellency Rear Admiral the Honourable Kevin Scarce AC CSC RANR, presided at a meeting of the Federal Executive Council.

Afterwards, at the Glasgow Cathedral, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove attended a Commonwealth commemorative service in recognition of the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War, at which the Governor-General delivered a reading.

Visit to the United Kingdom

On Sunday 3 August 2014, in Glasgow, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Australian Chef de Mission, Mr Steve Moneghetti AM, met with Australian Athletes at the Commonwealth Games Village.

Afterwards, at the Scotstoun Sports Campus, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended the 2014 Commonwealth Games Mixed Doubles Squash Bronze Medal match between Australia and New Zealand.

Visit to the United Kingdom

On Saturday 2 August 2014, at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) attended the 2014 Commonwealth Games Men’s Hockey Semi-Final between Australia and England.

Afterwards, at Scotstoun, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended the 2014 Commonwealth Games Men’s Doubles Squash Semi-Final between Australia and England.

Later, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended the 2014 Commonwealth Games Women’s Squash Bronze Medal Match between Australian and England.

Visit to Police Scotland

In Glasgow, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Australian Federal Police (AFP) Senior Liaison Officer, Detective Superintendent Kieran Miller, and Police Scotland Deputy Chief Constable Steve Allen and Assistant Chief Constable Derek Robertson, visited the Police Scotland Incident Control Unit Headquarters and Multi Agency Control Centre to meet embedded AFP officers and Police Scotland personnel involved in the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
