Governor-General attends Australia Day Flag Raising and Citizenship Ceremony

On Australia Day, the Governor-General led 22 new Australians in the Australian Citizenship Affirmation during a ceremony held at Rond Terrace, Canberra.

Ms Bryce arrived at the Australia Day Flag and Citizenship Ceremony and received a Royal Salute before inspecting the Federation Guard and viewing a flypast of three RAAF Super Hornets.

After the ceremony, the Governor-General and the Prime Minister, the Hon. Julia Gillard MP, congratulated the new citizens and met members of the public who attended the event.

National Flag Raising and Citizenship Ceremony; 2013 Australian Open Women’s Final

On Saturday 26 January 2013, at Commonwealth Park, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO, as Host Officer, and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, attended the National Flag Raising and Citizenship Ceremony.

Afterwards, at Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the President of Tennis Australia, Mr Steve Healy, attended the 2013 Australian Open Women’s Final.

On Friday 25 January 2013, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO received Mr Brett Aldam, High Commissioner-designate to the Kingdom of Tonga.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received His Excellency Mr Biren Nanda, High Commissioner for the Republic of India.

Governor-General hosts event to honour the national finalists of the 2013 Australian of the Year Awards

The Governor-General hosted an event to honour the national finalists of the 2013 Australian of the Year awards at Government House, Canberra.

Ms Bryce and Mr Michael Bryce were introduced to 32 finalists and their families by the Chair of the National Australia Day Council, Mr Adam Gilchrist AM, and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Graeme West.

The Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year, Young Australian of the Year and Australia’s Local Hero will be announced during a ceremony on 25 January.
