Later, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE returned to Australia on completion of their visit to the Republic of Singapore, the United Arab Emirates and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

On Wednesday, 21 January 2009, at Concord Hospital, Sydney, the Administrator, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO and Sir Nicholas Shehadie AC OBE, as guests of the Asbestos Disease Research Foundation, attended the Official Opening of the Bernie Banton Centre.

On Tuesday 20 January 2009, at Verbruggen Hall, Sydney Conservatorium of Music, the Administrator, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO and Sir Nicholas Shehadie AC OBE, attended a function at which the Administrator delivered the 2009 Australia Day Address.

On Monday 19 January 2009, in Tarin Kowt, Afghanistan, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC, as Commander-in-Chief of the Australian Defence Force, and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE visited the Australian Army Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force.

On Sunday 18 January 2009 at Tathra Surf Lifesaving Club, Tathra, the Administrator, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, and Sir Nicholas Shehadie AC OBE attended an event at which the Administrator officially started the Tathra Wharf to Waves Race.

On Saturday 17 January 2009, following the departure from Australia of the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE on a visit to the Republic of Singapore, the United Arab Emirates and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Proclamation assuming the Administration of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia was signed by the Governor of New South Wales, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO.

On Friday 16 January 2009, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE hosted an Investiture Ceremony at which the Governor-General, as Chancellor of the Order of Australia, invested Trooper Mark Donaldson with the insignia of the Victoria Cross for Australia.

Earlier, at Brisbane International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the departure from Australia of the President of Nauru, His Excellency the Honourable Marcus Stephen MP, by Colonel Dennis Scanlan CSM RFD ADC, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.

On Friday 9 January 2009, at Brisbane International Airport, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC was represented at the arrival in Australia of the President of Nauru, His Excellency Marcus Stephen MP, by Group Captain Brian Duddington AM ADC, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.
