On Saturday 26 April 2008, in the United Arab Emirates, at the Residence of the Australian Ambassador, Their Excellencies, the Governor-General Major General Michael Jeffrey AC CVO MC and Mrs Marlena Jeffrey, as guests of honour, attended an official dinner hosted by the Australian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, His Excellency Mr Jeremy Bruer and Mrs Catherine Bruer.

Earlier, in Abu Dhabi, Mrs Jeffery toured the Sheikh Zayed Mosque and the Emirates Palace, before viewing the Saadiyat Island development and the Masdar City project model.

On Monday 21 April 2008, at St Andrews Cathedral Sydney, the Administrator, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, attended the War Widows' Guild of NSW Service of Dedication where the Administrator read the First Lesson and planted the first cross.

Following the Governor-General's departure from Australia, the Governor of New South Wales, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, assumed the Administration of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia. In the morning, at St Stephen's Anglican Church, Willoughby, the Administrator attended an ANZAC service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving. Later at Gordon, the Administrator attended a High Tea at Eryldene Historic House and Garden as Guest of Honour.
