Tribal Warrior Association; Ronald McDonald House; Royal Randwick

On Saturday 12 April 2014, at the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence, Redfern, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Tribal Warrior Association, Mr Shane Phillips, met with participants of the Indigenous mentoring program.

Afterwards, at Ronald McDonald House, Randwick, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chief Executive Officer of Ronald McDonald House Charities Australia, Mr Malcolm Coutts OAM, met with families and staff.

Visit to the Tribal Warrior mentoring program

The Tribal Warrior mentoring program received a visit from the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, at the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence in Redfern, NSW. The mentoring program takes a holistic, grassroots approach by combining exercise, assistance and referral services to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth of all ages to form good habits, guide by example, acknowledge achievements and include everyone. The program is run in association with the Redfern Local Area Police Command’s “Clean Slate Without Prejudice” initiative.

Meeting with Governor of NSW; Services Dinner

On Friday 11 April 2014, at Government House, Sydney, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, met the Governor of New South Wales, Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Marie Bashir AC CVO and Sir Nicholas Shehadie AC OBE.

Afterwards, at The Australian Club, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Club President, Mr Roger Davis, attended the Services Dinner.

Visit to Melbourne

On Tuesday 8 April 2014, in Maribyrnong, Victoria, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the co-founders of The 20th Man Fund, Mr Les Twentyman OAM and Mr Ron Coleman, met with participants and staff of the 20th Man Young Leadership Program.

Afterwards, at Tobruk House, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Secretary, Mr Reg Lawrence, attended a lunch with Rats of Tobruk veterans and Association members.

Visit to the 20th Man Young Leadership Program

The Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove met participants in the 20th Man Young Leadership Program, at Maribyrnong, Victoria. The 20th Man Fund was founded by Les Twentyman OAM and Ron Coleman with the aim of assisting Melbourne’s homeless, disadvantaged and ‘at-risk’ youth through counselling, education, recreation and support resources. The fund’s Young Leadership Program annually targets 30 young people from various backgrounds, who lack self-esteem and self-worth due to their personal, social, financial and ethnic circumstances.
