On Friday 28 March 2014, at Parliament House, Canberra, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Lynne Cosgrove, attended a ceremony at which General Cosgrove was sworn-in as the twenty-sixth Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia.
In Brisbane, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce were welcomed home by their children and grandchildren.
At Defence Establishment Fairbairn, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Prime Minister, the Honourable Tony Abbott MP, and Mrs Margaret Abbott, attended a ceremony to mark their departure from Canberra before returning to Brisbane.
On Wednesday 26 March 2014, at the Australian War Memorial, the Governor-General the Honourable Dame Quentin Bryce AD CVO and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of the Chair, Rear Admiral Ken Doolan AO RAN (Retd), and Director, the Honourable Dr Brendan Nelson, attended a ceremony at which the Governor-General laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Australian Soldier.
At Parliament House, the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce attended a farewell reception hosted in their honour by the Prime Minister and Mrs Margaret Abbott.
At Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General received the Prime Minister, the Honourable Tony Abbott MP.
On Tuesday 25 March 2014, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General the Honourable Quentin Bryce AC CVO, presided at a meeting of the Federal Executive Council.
Earlier, on the recommendation of the Prime Minister, the Honourable Tony Abbott MP, Her Majesty The Queen was pleased to approve the award of Dame of the Order of Australia to the Governor-General.
