Governor-General attends a lunch with Canadian women leaders

Canadian women leaders joined the Governor-General for a lunch and discussion hosted by the Australian High Commissioner to Canada.

Lunch guests included Her Excellency Mrs Sharon Johnston, Chief Justice of Canada, the Rt Hon Beverley McLachlin PC, senior military personnel, government officials, health, and community sector representatives.

Later, the Governor-General planted a tree at the High Commissioner’s Residence and met Australian and locally engaged High Commission staff members attending the event.

Governor-General visits Rideau Secondary High School

The Principal of Rideau Secondary High School, Mr Geordie Walker, welcomed the Governor-General and the Australian Indigenous delegation to the school for discussions on diversity, multiculturalism and the mentoring of students.

The school caters for the largest number of aboriginal students in Ottawa and over half the total students speak a language other than English.

Later, the Governor-General spoke of Australia’s multiculturalism during a keynote address at the Global Centre for Pluralism in Ottawa.

Royal Far West lunch; Dinner for members of the Shackleton Epic Leadership Round Table; Visit to Canada

On Thursday 4 April 2013, at Doltone House, Pyrmont, the Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia, Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, as Patron, attended the Royal Far West lunch.

Afterwards, at Government House, Sydney, the Administrator hosted a dinner for members of the Shackleton Epic Leadership Round Table.

The Governor-General of Canada welcomes the Governor-General to Ottawa

The Governor-General of Canada, His Excellency the Rt Hon David Johnston, and Her Excellency Mrs Sharon Johnston warmly welcomed the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce to Ottawa, Canada.

Their Excellencies met formally at the Governor-General's official residence, Rideau Hall, to discuss the bilateral linkages between both Commonwealth nations. Later, Their Exellencies attended a dinner held in honour of the Governor-General’s visit to Canada.

On Wednesday 3 April 2013, at the Office of the Governor, Sydney, the Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia, Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, received the State Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Australia in New South Wales, the Right Reverend Trevor Cheetham, and Mrs Penelope Cheetham.

Afterwards, at Government House, Sydney, the Administrator received a farewell from the Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China, Mr Duan Jielong.

Governor-General receives a traditional welcome at the University of British Columbia

The Governor-General and an Australian Indigenous delegation received a Canadian First Nations welcome at the University of British Columbia on the first day of discussions between both nations' indigenous people.

After the welcome by The Coastal Wolf Pack, Ms Bryce opened a roundtable discussion at the Liu Institute between the indigenous leaders on the common opportunities and challenges for economic development.

In the afternoon, the Governor-General met the President of UBC, Professor Stephen Toope.

Governor-General presents medals during visit to Vancouver

The Governor-General presented The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal to Australian Cross of Valour recipient, Mr Richard Joyes CV, during a ceremony in Vancouver, Canada.

Ms Bryce, as Chancellor of the Order of Australia, also invested Canadian resident Mr Kelly Bedford with a National Emergency Medal.

Mr Bedford was awarded the medal for his sustained service to protect lives and property during the 2009 Victorian bushfires.
