Governor-General visits Orange, NSW

The Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce arrived in Orange, NSW, to mark National Volunteer Week with the local community.

Visiting the Orange and District Early Education Program, Ms Bryce met staff and volunteers who assist children with disabilities and learning difficulties before presenting four volunteers with certificates to recognise 10 years of service to the organisation.

Later, the Governor-General was welcomed to the Migrant Support Service and met volunteer mentors, refugees and migrant families who are assisted by the community organisation.

In Orange, the Governor-General visited TAFE NSW Western Orange Campus and was briefed on the training and educational programs offered in the region, including the Indigenous Police Recruitment Our Way Delivery program (IPROWD).

Ms Bryce and Mr Michael Bryce were briefed on the program by Coordinator Mr Peter Gibbs and spoke via a remote broadband link to IPROWD Indigenous students studying in Dubbo.

Governor-General vists Orange, NSW

The Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce visited the Orange Health Service’s new hospital, which caters for local residents and in-patients from the wider western NSW region.

Arriving at the hospital, Ms Bryce met Wayfinders volunteers marking National Volunteer Week before viewing a Linear Accelerator and the Cath Lab.

In the evening the Governor-General and Mr Bryce attended a Civic Reception to mark National Volunteer Week at the City's Civic Centre.

Presentation of Honour Distinction to the 17th Construction Squadron; Reception for Foodbank Australia; Opening night performance of ‘The Baulkham Hills African Ladies Troupe’

On Saturday 11 May 2013, at Steele Barracks, Moorebank, the Governor-General the Honourable Quentin Bryce AC CVO and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, attended a parade at which the Governor-General, as Commander-in-Chief, reviewed the parade and presented the first Honour Distinction to the 17th Construction Squadron.

Afterwards, at Admiralty House, Sydney, the Governor-General, as Patron, and Mr Bryce, hosted a reception for Foodbank Australia.

Launch of McGlade Gallery Art Exhibition; Reception for Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children

On Friday 10 May 2013, at Admiralty House, Sydney, the Governor-General the Honourable Quentin Bryce AC CVO, received ABC Journalist, Mr Jeremy Fernandez, and Miss Emmy Fernandez.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received the CEO of Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia Australia, Ms Lucy Perry.

Later, at the McGlade Gallery, Australian Catholic University, Strathfield Campus, the Governor-General, as guest of the Associate Vice-Chancellor, Professor Marea Nicholson, launched the ‘Gifts of the Artists’ Indigenous art exhibition.

2012 Clarke Gold Medal; Meeting with the Board of the Act for Kids; Visit to Karuno Hospice Service

On Thursday 9 May 2013, at Victoria Barracks, Brisbane, the Governor-General the Honourable Quentin Bryce AC CVO, as Senior Patron of the Royal Humane Society of Australasia, presented the 2012 Clarke Gold Medal to Mr Raymond Leslie Bruckner BM and Mr Ernst Gomsi BM.

Afterwards, in Milton, the Governor-General met with board members of Act for Kids.

Later at Karuno Hospice, Windsor, the Governor-General, as guest of the Director, Ms Yeshe Kadro, met with staff, volunteers and clients.

70,000th Student Visitor; Canberra International Music Festival

On Wednesday 8 May 2013, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General the Honourable Quentin Bryce AC CVO, met with students from Hutchins School and presented Master Miles McTaggart with a certificate recognising him as the 70,000th student to visit Government House.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, hosted a Musical Evening in support of the Canberra International Music Festival 2013.

Governor-General welcomes 70,000th student to Government House

The Governor-General welcomed the 70,000th school student to visit Government House since she took Office in September 2008.

Ms Bryce met the school group from The Hutchins School, Tasmania, before presenting the 70,000th student, Miles McTaggart, with a certificate to mark the occasion.

Government House hosts an average of eight school tours per week during school terms, with each tour comprising around 70 schoolchildren.

International Nurses and Midwives Week Remembrance Ceremony

On Tuesday 7 May 2013, at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO, as guest of the Director, the Honourable Dr Brendan Nelson, laid a wreath at the ACT Remembrance Ceremony to mark International Nurses and Midwives Week.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received the CEO of Save the Children Australia, Ms Suzanne Dvorak.
