International Nurses and Midwives Week Remembrance Ceremony

At the Australian War Memorial, the Governor-General joined the Memorial Director, the Hon Dr Brendan Nelson, and the ACT Chief Nurse, Ms Veronica Croome, for the International Nurses and Midwives Week Remembrance Ceremony.

The Governor-General laid a wreath in memory of the sacrifices made by Australian nurses and met Defence and local nursing staff after the ceremony.

Presentation of Honorary Australian Citizenship to the late Raoul Wallenberg

In an Australian first, the Governor-General presided over a ceremony recognising the late World War II humanitarian Raoul Wallenberg as an honorary Australian citizen at Government House, Canberra.

Raoul Wallenberg was a Swedish diplomat in Nazi-occupied Hungary who led an extensive and successful mission to save the lives of nearly 100,000 Hungarian Jews by issuing protective passports and providing shelter in diplomatic buildings.

Brumbies State of the Union Lunch

On Friday 3 May 2013, at Rydges Lakeside, Canberra, Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as Patron and guest of the Chief Executive Officer of the Brumbies, Mr Andrew Fagan, attended the Brumbies State of the Union Lunch.

Afterwards, at Canberra Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the departure from Australia of the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, by the Deputy Official Secretary to the Governor-General, Mr Mark Fraser OAM.

On Thursday 2 May 2013, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO, received the Australian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam, Mr Todd Mercer.

Afterwards, the Governor-General hosted a Ceremonial Welcome for the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah.

Governor-General welcomes the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam

The Governor-General welcomed the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, at Government House, Canberra.

On arrival, His Majesty received a 21-gun and national salute before being invited to inspect Australia’s Federation Guard and the Royal Military College Band, Duntroon.

His Majesty later joined the Governor-General for a discussion and State Lunch in honour of his visit.

Ms Bryce previously met His Majesty during her State Visit to Brunei Darussalam in October 2012.

Reception for the Investiture of His Majesty King Willem-Alexander

On Wednesday 1 May 2013, at the Official Residence of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Red Hill, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO, as guest of the Ambassador, Her Excellency Mrs Annemieke Ruigrok, attended a Vin d’Honneur on the occasion of the investiture of His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
