Afterwards, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Melbourne, the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE attended the launch of the Australian Practice Nurses Association 2009 Inaugural National Conference, at which the Governor-General delivered the keynote address. Later, at the University of Sydney, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce attended a ceremony at which the Governor-General officially opened the new Sydney Law School Building.

On Wednesday 29 April 2009 at Admiralty House, Sydney, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE hosted an Investiture Ceremony at which the Governor-General, as Chancellor of the Order of Australia, invested Mrs Faith Bandler AC with the insignia of a Companion of the Order of Australia.

Afterwards, at the Four Seasons Hotel, Sydney, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce attended the launch of the Salvation Army's 2009 Red Shield Appeal luncheon at which the Governor-General delivered the keynote address.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by: the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Immigration, the Honourable Sam Abal MP; the High Commissioner for Papua New Guinea to Australia, His Excellency Mr Charles Lepani; and the Australian High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea, Mr Chris Moraitis. In the afternoon, the Governor-General received the Chief Executive Officer of Life Education Australia, Mr Jay Bacik.
