On Thursday 23 October 2008, in Echuca, Victoria, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of the Mayor of the Shire of Campaspe, Councillor John Elborough, attended a community lunch onboard PS Pevensey with representatives of the State Emergency Service; Country Fire Authority; St Johns Ambulance; Echuca Specialist School; the Echuca Indigenous Centre; and representatives of local primary and secondary schools.

On Wednesday 22 October 2008, in Shepparton, Victoria, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, in recognition of Universal Children's Day, visited the Arthur Dickman Childcare Centre where the Governor-General officially opened the Elizabeth Hildebrand Room.

On Tuesday 21 October 2008, at Burrumbuttock, NSW, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE toured the Wirraminna Environmental Education Centre and attended a morning tea with local farmers and councillors.

On Monday 20 October 2008, at Sydney Convention Centre, Daring Harbour, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC delivered the opening address at the 8th Biennial National Early Childhood Intervention Australia Conference.

On Sunday 19 October 2008, at Brisbane International Airport, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC was represented at the departure from Australia of the President of the Republic of Nauru, His Excellency the Honourable Marcus Stephen, by Group Captain Guy Burton ADC, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.

On Saturday 18 October 2008, at Sydney International Airport, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC was represented at the arrival in Australia of the Mother of the King of the Kingdom of Tonga, Her Majesty Queen Halaevalu Mata'aho, by Colonel Michael Miller RFD ADC, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received the High Commissioner for the Republic of Malta, His Excellency Mr Francis Tabone. Later, Mr Michael Bryce AM AE received the Chancellor of the University of Canberra, Emeritus Professor Ingrid Moses. Then, at Brisbane International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the arrival in Australia of the President of the Republic of Nauru, His Excellency the Honourable Marcus Stephen, by Group Captain Brian Duddington AM ADC, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.

Afterwards, at the Melbourne Law School, University of Melbourne, Victoria, the Governor-General officially launched the book based on the review by Professor Ross Garnaut AO, titled The Garnaut Climate Change Review. Later, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General received the Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Mark Binskin AM. In the evening, in the Great Hall, University House, the Australian National University, the Governor-General delivered the inaugural Families Australia Oration.

On Wednesday 15 October 2008, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC received the Australian High Commissioner-designate to the Republic of Singapore, Mr Doug Chester.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received the High Commissioner for the Republic of Singapore, His Excellency Mr Albert Chua. Later, the Governor-General received the Executive President of the China Ocean Shipping Company, Mr Wei Jiafu, accompanied by the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China, His Excellency Mr Zhang Junsai.

On Tuesday 14 October 2008, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC received the Founder of The Jane Goodall Institute, Dr Jane Goodall.

In the evening, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, as Commander-in-Chief of the Australian Defence Force, hosted a reception for the Australian Defence College 2008 overseas course members.
