Humanitarian Overseas Service Medal

Humanitarian Overseas Service Medal

The Humanitarian Overseas Service Medal recognises people who have given humanitarian service in hazardous circumstances outside Australia.

The Humanitarian Overseas Service Medal honours members of recognised Australian groups that provide humanitarian service overseas in hazardous circumstances (such as in war zones, during peacekeeping operations or in times of natural disaster or civil strife).

Applications for the Humanitarian Overseas Service Medal come directly from either individuals or groups in the community. The Governor-General, on the recommendation of the Secretary of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, may make the award to a person who meets the eligibility criteria.

More information about eligibility and how to apply is available on the pmc.gov.au website.
