On Tuesday 1 November 2016, at Flemington Racecourse, Melbourne, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chairman, Victoria Racing Club, Mr Michael Burn, attended the Melbourne Cup Day, at which the Governor-General presented the Melbourne Cup trophy to Mr Lloyd Williams, who received the trophy on behalf of the winning connections.

Afterwards, at Government House, Melbourne, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended an investiture ceremony, at which the Governor-General, as Chancellor of the Order of Australia, invested Mr Tony Beddison AC with the insignia of the Companion of the Order of Australia.

On Saturday 29 October 2016, in Brisbane city, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Commander, 1st Division and Deployable Joint Force Headquarters, Major General Paul McLachlan AM CSC, attended the 8th/9th Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment’s Freedom of Entry Parade to mark the 43rd anniversary of the amalgamation of 8th and 9th Battalions.
