Visit to Hill 60 and Hill 10 Cemeteries; 100th anniversary of the Battle for Chunuk Bair international commemoration

In Gallipoli, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, accompanied by Chief of Army, Lieutenant General Angus Campbell DSC AM, Mr Keith Payne VC AM, Corporal Mark Donaldson VC, Corporal Daniel Keighran VC and Mr Doug and Mrs Kaye Baird, parents of the late Corporal Cameron Baird VC MG, visited Hill 60 Cemetery, at which Their Excellencies laid a wreath in honour of allied soldiers who died during the Gallipoli Campaign.

Visit to Australian troops in Iraq accompanied by Australian Victoria Cross recipients

In Baghdad, the Governor-General, as guest of the Commanding Officer and Regimental Sergeant Major, and accompanied by Australian Victoria Cross recipients, Mr Keith Payne VC AM, Corporal Mark Donaldson VC, Corporal Ben Roberts-Smith VC MG and Corporal Daniel Keighran VC, met with Australian Special Operations Command service personnel providing advice and assistance to the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service.

Visit to Troy and Assos; Ҫanakkale Naval Museum

On Friday 7 August 2015, in Troy, Turkey, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, accompanied by the Australian Ambassador to the Republic of Turkey, His Excellency Mr James Larsen, visited the UNESCO World Heritage listed archaeological site of Troy.

Afterwards, in Assos, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, accompanied by the Australian Ambassador to the Republic of Turkey, visited Assos.

On Thursday 6 August 2015, in the Gallipoli Heritage Park, Turkey, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Governor of Ҫanakkale, Mr Ahmet Ҫinar, visited the 57th Regiment Memorial and laid a wreath in honour of Turkish soldiers who died during the Gallipoli Campaign.

On Wednesday 5 August 2015, in Istanbul, Turkey, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove as guests of the Australian Consul-General in Istanbul, Mr Lino Strangis hosted a breakfast for Australian expatriates living and working in Istanbul.

Afterwards, at the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove met with Imam Ishak Kizilasian.

Later, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Director, Ms Sabriye Parlak, visited Hagia Sofia.

Meeting with the Greek Orthodox Ecumenical Patriarch; Meeting with the Governor of Istanbul;

In Istanbul, Turkey, at the Patriarchal Church of St George, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove met with the Greek Orthodox Ecumenical Patriarch and Archbishop of Constantinople and New Rome, His All Holiness Bartholomew I and conveyed greetings from the Government and people of Australia, including from members of Australia’s Greek and Orthodox communities.

Later, the Governor-General met with the Governor of Istanbul, Mr Vasip Sahin.

On Tuesday 4 August 2015, in Ankara, Turkey, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove as guests of the Australian Ambassador to the Republic of Turkey, His Excellency Mr James Larsen and Mrs Antoinette Merrillees, attended a morning tea with Australian Embassy staff.

In Ankara, Turkey, at Antikabir, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Commandant, Colonel Muzaffer Taytak, visited the Ataturk Mausoleum and laid a wreath in honour of the former President of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

Later, at the Presidential Palace, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the President of the Republic of Turkey, His Excellency Mr Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Mrs Emine Erdoğan, attended a ceremonial welcome.

Then, the Governor-General met with President Erdoğan and Lady Cosgrove met with Mrs Erdoğan.
