Service to commemorate the loss of HMAS AE1; Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron Sailing Season Opening Day

On Sunday 14 September 2014, at Garden Island, Sydney, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), as Commander-in-Chief, and Lady Cosgrove, attended a service to commemorate the loss of HMAS AE1, at which the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove laid a wreath.

Afterwards, at the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron, Kirribilli, the Governor-General, as Commodore-in-Chief, and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Commodore, Mr Malcolm Levy, attended the annual Sailing Season Opening Day, at which the Governor-General fired the ceremonial gun salute.

Commemorative service for HMAS AE1

At Garden Island, Sydney, NSW, the Governor-General, as Commander-in-Chief, and Lady Cosgrove attended a service to commemorate the loss of HMAS AE1, the first submarine to serve in the Royal Australian Navy, on 14 September 1914, at which the Governor-General read The Ode of Remembrance and together with Lady Cosgrove laid a wreath, before joining descendants and Navy personnel for morning tea.

Royal Adelaide Show official lunch

On Friday 12 September 2014, at the Adelaide Showgrounds, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the President of the Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Society of South Australia, Mr Richard Fewster, attended the 2014 Royal Adelaide Show official lunch, at which the Governor-General gave the keynote address.

Afterwards, at Government House, Adelaide, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove met with the Governor of South Australia, His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le AO and Mrs Lan Le.

In recognition of the 175th Anniversary of the Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Society of South Australia, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the President of the Society, Mr Richard Fewster, attended the 2014 Royal Adelaide Show Official Lunch at the Adelaide Showgrounds, at which the Governor-General gave the keynote address.

On Wednesday 10 September 2014, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) received the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Mr Ma Zhaoxu and Adviser to the Ambassador, Mr Li Jian.

Investiture Ceremony for Dr Jose Ramos Horta AC

On Sunday 7 September 2014, at Admiralty House, Sydney, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), as Chancellor of the Order of Australia, invested Dr Jose Ramos Horta AC with the insignia of Honorary Companion of the Order of Australia.

Earlier, at Brisbane International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the departure from Australia of the President of the Republic of Nauru, His Excellency the Honourable Baron Divavesi Waqa MP, by Colonel Dennis Scanlan CSM RFD ADC, Honorary Aide-de-Camp.

Investiture of Dr José Ramos-Horta AC as an Honorary Companion of the Order of Australia

At Admiralty House, Sydney, the Governor-General, as Chancellor of the Order of Australia, invested Dr José Ramos-Horta AC as an Honorary Companion of the Order of Australia for eminent service to strengthening Australia and Timor-Leste bilateral relations and for his outstanding leadership in bringing independence to Timor-Leste.
