At the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery, Launceston, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended a ceremony at which the Governor-General opened the exhibition ‘The Great War 1914-18: Sacrifice and Shadows’, in recognition of the 100th anniversary of the commencement of World War I.

On Tuesday 26 August 2014, at Parliament House, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), as Patron, and Lady Cosgrove, attended the First Voice ‘Power of Speech’ Ceremony, in recognition of Hearing Awareness Week.

Afterwards, the Governor-General, as Patron, received the Chairman of the Australian Veterans’ Children Assistance Trust, Vice Admiral Russ Shalders AO CSC RAN (Retd).

At Parliament House, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended a First Voice Power of Speech event, held during Hearing Awareness Week, at which the Governor-General presented awards to 12 participants, aged six to 11, who are some of the beneficiaries of First Voice, an alliance of six world-leading centres across Australia and New Zealand that provide support for children with hearing loss.
