Call by the Prime Minister; President of the Republic of Nauru

On Sunday 4 August 2013, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General the Honourable Quentin Bryce AC CVO received the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Australia, the Honourable Kevin Rudd MP.

Earlier, at Brisbane International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the departure from Australia of the President of the Republic of Nauru, His Excellency the Honourable Baron Divavesi Waqa MP, by Brigadier Christopher Hamilton ADC, Honorary Aide-de-Camp.

Afterwards, Ms Kirsty Sword Gusmão arrived at Government House and remained overnight as a houseguest.

Visit to RAAF Base Townsville

At RAAF Base Townsville, the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of the Senior Australian Defence Force Officer, Wing Commander George Hodgson, received a briefing on base capabilities, and met with 5 Aviation Regiment and US Marine Corps personnel involved in Exercise Talisman Sabre 2013, before attending a morning tea with Australian Defence Force members.

Afterwards, the Governor-General, invested Flight Lieutenant Trent McIntosh with the Conspicuous Service Cross.

Visit to RAAF Base Townsville

On Thursday 1 August 2013, at RAAF Base Townsville, the Governor-General the Honourable Quentin Bryce AC CVO and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of the Senior Australian Defence Force Officer, Wing Commander George Hodgson, received a briefing on base capabilities, and met with 5 Aviation Regiment and US Marine Corps personnel involved in Exercise Talisman Sabre 2013, before attending a morning tea with Australian Defence Force members.

Governor-General visits Badu (Mulgrave) Island

The Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE visited on Badu (Mulgrave) Island as guests of the Torres Strait Island Regional Council Member, Councillor Horace Baira, and signed the registration book at the Badu Council Office.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of TSRA member, Mr Maluwup Nona and Councillor Baira, visited Argan Fisheries, Badu Island Art Centre and received a Welcome to Country at a community reception.

Governor-General visits Mer (Murray) Island

The Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, accompanied by Elders, Mr Alo Tapim and Mrs Lency Tapin and, as guests of the Deputy Chair of the TSRA, Mr Aven Noah, visited Mer (Murray) Island in the Torres Strait.

Ms Bryce, accompanied by Elders, laid a wreath at the gravesite of the late Mr Eddie Mabo.

Then, at Tagai State College, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Head of Campus, Mr Paul Kuronya, viewed classrooms and met with student leaders and teachers.

Governor-General visits Warraber (Sue) Island

The Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, accompanied by the Chair of the Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA), Mr Joseph Elu AO, and the Chief Executive Officer, Mr Wayne See Kee, and as guests of Councillor Ted Billy, visited Warraber (Sue) Island in the Torres Strait.

Ms Bryce signed the registration book at the Warraber Council Office and later attended a Welcome to Country by Elder, Pastor Nelson Billy, at the Warraber Sports Centre.

On Wednesday 31 July 2013, on Warraber (Sue) Island, the Governor-General the Honourable Quentin Bryce AC CVO and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, accompanied by the Chair of the Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA), Mr Joseph Elu AO, and the Chief Executive Officer, Mr Wayne See Kee, and as guests of Councillor Ted Billy, signed the registration book at the Warraber Council Office.
