Federal Executive Council; Dinner in Honour of HRH The Duke of Gloucester

On Thursday 24 May 2012, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO presided at a meeting of the Federal Executive Council.

Earlier, the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE received the Prince and Grand Master of the Order of Malta His Most Eminent Highness Fra Matthew Festing OBE.

In the evening, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce received the Grand Prior of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem, His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester KG GCVO.

Credentials

On Wednesday 23 May 2012, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO received from His Excellency Mr Biren Nanda, Letters of Commission accrediting him as the High Commissioner for the Republic of India. The High Commissioner was accompanied by Mr Vindod Kumar Sharma (Deputy High Commissioner), Mr Tarun Kumar (First Secretary) and Mr Rishi Kumar Kapoor (Second Secretary). The Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE also received Mrs Rukmani Nanda.

Reception for Australian-Cypriot Community

On Tuesday 22 May 2012, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO received the Ambassador-designate to Vietnam, Mr Hugh Borrowman.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received the Ambassador of Austria, His Excellency Dr Hannes Porias.

Later, the Governor-General received the Chairman of Yooralla, Mr Bruce Bonyhady AM.

In the evening, the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE hosted a reception for the Australian-Cypriot community.

Canberra Lakes Ladies Probus Club

On Monday 21 May 2012, Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO received the Chief Executive Officer of the Burnet Institute, Professor Brendan Crabb, Burnet Institute Board member, Ms Natasha Scott Despoja, and the Head of Public Affairs and Communications of the Brunet Institute, Mr Paul Rathbone.

Earlier, at St John’s Church Centre, Canberra, Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as a guest of the Vice President of the Canberra Lakes Ladies Probus Club, Mrs Joyce Goodman, attended a morning tea and gave an address.

Timor Leste Visit to Alola Foundation

During their visit to Timor Leste, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce visited the Alola Foundation, a not-for-profit Foundation set up 11 years ago by Ms Kirsty Sword-Gismao to improve the lives of women and children.

Australia supports the Foundation's Education and Literacy Program, and Ms Bryce met recipients of 10 scholarships for secondary level study.

She also observed the packing of education packages, each containing 75 books in Tetum, which will be distributed to primary schools across Timor Leste with Australia's support.

Opening of Resistance Museum, Dili

During her visit to Timor Leste for the inauguration fo the new President and to mark the 10th anniversary of the country's independence, the Governor-General attended the opening of the Resistance Museum in Dili.

As Australia's gift to the Museum, Ms Bryce presented a collection of audio-visual materials of cultural significance, sourced from the National Film and Sound Archive.
