On Saturday 9 February 2008, at The Strand, Townsville, the Governor-General, His Excellency Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC, as Commander-in-Chief of the Australian Defence Force, laid a wreath at the Royal Australian Regiment Association (QLD Division) 60th Anniversary Parade and Memorial Service. Afterwards, the Governor-General attended a morning tea hosted by the President, Mr Rod McLean AM, and members of the Townsville Returned and Services League.

On Friday 8 February 2008, in Emerald, Queensland, the Governor-General, His Excellency Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC, as guest of the Mayor of Emerald Shire Council, Councillor Peter Maguire, visited members of the local community affected by the recent floods and thanked emergency personnel, local volunteers and support groups involved in the relief efforts.

In the evening, at Jupiters Hotel, Townsville, the Governor-General was the guest of honour at a Civic Reception hosted by the Mayor of the City of Townsville, Councillor Tony Mooney.

On Thursday 7 February 2008, at ABS House, Belconnen ACT, the Governor-General, His Excellency Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC officially launched the Australian Bureau of Statistics 2008 Year Book Australia.

In the evening, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, as Patron of Boy's Brigade Australia, hosted a reception and presented The Queen's Awards to members of the Canberra and District Territorial Council.

On Monday 4 February 2008, at City Uniting Church, Canberra, His Excellency the Governor-General, Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC, as a guest of the Law Society of the Australian Capital Territory, read the First Lesson at the Commencement of the 2008 Legal Year Church Service.

Afterwards, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General received the Chairman, Defence Housing Authority, the Honourable Peter Jones AM.

On Friday 1 February 2008, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, His Excellency Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC, received the Australian Ambassador???designate to The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mr Kevin Magee.

Afterwards, Her Excellency Mrs Marlena Jeffery received the wife of the Ambassador of the Syrian Arab Republic, Madame Isis Saeed, accompanied by His Excellency Mr Tammam Sulaiman.

On Thursday 31 January 2008, at Pyrmont, Sydney, NSW, the Governor-General, His Excellency Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC, toured the Sydney Fish Markets as a guest of the Managing Director, Mr Grahame Turk.

Afterwards, at Admiralty House, Sydney, the Governor-General received Dr Bruce Horsfield, Honorary Professor of Communication and Media Studies, Department of Mass Communication, Faculty of Arts, University of Southern Queensland.

On Wednesday 30 January 2008, at Manuka Oval, Manuka, ACT, Their Excellencies the Governor-General Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC and Mrs Marlena Jeffery, as guests of the Prime Minister, the Honourable Kevin Rudd MP, attended the Prime Minister's XI versus Sri Lanka cricket match and luncheon.

On Monday 28 January 2008, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, His Excellency Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC sent a message of condolence to the President of the Republic of Indonesia, His Excellency Dr Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, following the death of former President Suharto.
