On Saturday 17 January 2009, following the departure from Australia of the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE on a visit to the Republic of Singapore, the United Arab Emirates and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Proclamation assuming the Administration of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia was signed by the Governor of New South Wales, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO.

On Friday 16 January 2009, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE hosted an Investiture Ceremony at which the Governor-General, as Chancellor of the Order of Australia, invested Trooper Mark Donaldson with the insignia of the Victoria Cross for Australia.

On Friday 9 January 2009, at Brisbane International Airport, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC was represented at the arrival in Australia of the President of Nauru, His Excellency Marcus Stephen MP, by Group Captain Brian Duddington AM ADC, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.

On Saturday 3 January 2009, at the Sydney Cricket Ground, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of the Chairman of the Sydney Cricket Ground Trust, Mr Rodney Cavalier AO, attended Day One of the 3 Mobile Test Series, Australia versus South Africa.

On Friday 19 December 2008, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC received the Australian Ambassador-designate to the Republic of Korea, Mr Sam Gerovich.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received the Treasurer of the Commonwealth of Australia, the Honourable Wayne Swan MP. Later, the Governor-General received the Usher of the Black Rod, Ms Andrea Griffiths.
