Visit to the 20th Man Young Leadership Program

The Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove met participants in the 20th Man Young Leadership Program, at Maribyrnong, Victoria. The 20th Man Fund was founded by Les Twentyman OAM and Ron Coleman with the aim of assisting Melbourne’s homeless, disadvantaged and ‘at-risk’ youth through counselling, education, recreation and support resources. The fund’s Young Leadership Program annually targets 30 young people from various backgrounds, who lack self-esteem and self-worth due to their personal, social, financial and ethnic circumstances.

Visit to Melbourne

On Tuesday 8 April 2014, in Maribyrnong, Victoria, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the co-founders of The 20th Man Fund, Mr Les Twentyman OAM and Mr Ron Coleman, met with participants and staff of the 20th Man Young Leadership Program.

Afterwards, at Tobruk House, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Secretary, Mr Reg Lawrence, attended a lunch with Rats of Tobruk veterans and Association members.

Visit to Chintin

The Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove visit the bushfire-affected property of Scott and Liz Pape, at Chintin, Victoria. The property sustained significant damage during the February 2014 bushfires including the loss of the family home. Local BlazeAid volunteers are helping the family to repair and rebuild, starting with the fences around the property.

Visit to the BlazeAid Wandong Base Camp

More than 200 volunteers and supporters of BlazeAid, and farmers affected by the February 2014 bushfires welcomed the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove during their first official community visit, to the BlazeAid Wandong Base Camp in Victoria. The visit was an opportunity for the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove to extend their appreciation to some of the many thousands of volunteers who have helped to rebuild communities after natural disasters such as fires and floods.

Visit to Melbourne

On Monday 7 April 2014, at Wandong, Victoria, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the co-founders of BlazeAid, Mr Kevin Butler OAM and Mrs Rhonda Butler OAM, met with volunteers and supporters of BlazeAid and farmers affected by the February bushfires.

Afterwards, at Chintin, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Mr Scott Pape and Mrs Elizabeth Pape, visited a sheep property affected by the February bushfires.

On Friday 4 April 2014, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) received the Director-General, Australian Secret Intelligence Service, Mr Nick Warner AO PSM.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received the Sex Discrimination Commissioner, Australian Human Rights Commission, Ms Elizabeth Broderick.

Later, at Red Hill, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove met with the residents of the BaptistCare Carey Gardens Centre.
