On Tuesday 7 June 2016, following the departure of the Governor-General from Australia on an official visit to the United Kingdom on the occasion of Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th birthday, the proclamation assuming the Administration of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia was signed by the Governor of Queensland, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC.

On Monday 6 June 2016, at the Sofitel, Melbourne, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of National President of RSL Australia, Rear Admiral Ken Doolan AO RAN (Retd), opened the 2016 Centenary RSL National Conference, at which the Governor-General presented the 2016 ANZAC Peace Prize to Mr Peter Greste.

Melbourne, VIC

On Sunday 5 June 2016, at Mayfair House, Parkville, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chairman of Soldier On, Lieutenant General Peter Leahy AC (Retd), officially opened the Gregory Sher Reintegration and Recovery Centre.

Richmond, NSW

On Thursday 2 June 2016, at RAAF Base Richmond, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), as Commander-in-Chief and Chief Mourner, and Lady Cosgrove attended a Repatriation Ceremony and Memorial Service for 33 Australians repatriated from Terendak Military Cemetery, Malaysia, and Kranji War Cemetery, Singapore.

On Wednesday 1 June 2016, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove received the Administrator of the Northern Territory, His Honour the Honourable John Hardy OAM, and Mrs Marie Hardy.

Afterwards, Lady Cosgrove, as Patron, and the Governor General hosted a morning tea for the Canberra Hospital Foundation.

Later, the Governor-General, as Patron, received the Chief Executive Officer, Dr Andrew Bickerdike, and the National Executive Officer, Ms Alison Brook of Relationships Australia.

On Sunday 29 May 2016, at St Mary’s Cathedral, Sydney, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Archbishop of Sydney, the Most Reverend Anthony Fisher OP, attended Sunday Mass and a morning tea.

On Saturday 28 May 2016, at Admiralty House, Sydney, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) received Member of the Political Bureau and the Secretariat and Minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, His Excellency Mr Liu Qibao, his accompanying delegation and Ambassador-designate of the People’s Republic of China, Mr Cheng Jingye.

On Friday 27 May 2016, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) received from His Excellency Mr Fidelino Loy de Jesus Figueiredo, Letters of Credentials accrediting him as the Ambassador of Angola.

Later, the Governor-General, as Patron, received the Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Paralympic Committee, Mrs Lynne Anderson.

Then, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove hosted a welcome home reception for the 2016 Invictus Games Team, at which the Governor-General delivered an address.

Canberra, ACT

On Thursday 26 May 2016, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), as Patron, and Lady Cosgrove hosted a morning tea for National Palliative Care Week 2016.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received the Australian Ambassador to the Federated States of Micronesia, Mr George Fraser.

On Wednesday 25 May 2016, at Monash University, Melbourne, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove attended the Engineering graduation, at which the Governor-General was admitted to the degree of Doctor of Laws honoris causa and delivered the graduation address.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the President and Vice-Chancellor of Monash University, Professor Margaret Gardner AO, attended a lunch at Monash University House.
