Daniel John Tellam OAM, known to many as “Tank”, has been recognised for his service to veterans and their families.

After a 30-yaer career in the Air Force in communications and logistics roles, Daniel has continued his service in a different way, supporting veterans across the Northern Territory.

Since 2007, he has worked closely with the veteran community, including through the Returned and Services League, where he currently serves as Vice-President of the Darwin Sub-Branch. His work includes supporting veterans who may not have a family around them, particularly in the Northern Territory. 

For Daniel, supporting veterans is about listening and responding to individual needs.

“When I support a veteran, I give them what they what – not what I think they need.”

He provides an approach that is both practical and personal, often as simple as spending time with veterans and offering support in whatever way is needed.

“I sit down with them [veterans], have a coffee, share a meal – whatever it takes.”

For Daniel, this recognition reflects years of consistent service to others that ensures veterans feel supported, connected, and not alone.
