Kylie Walker AM

Ms Kylie Walker has been appointed an AM for significant service to scientific communication and advocacy. She has shown exceptional dedication and influential leadership in advancing science, equity, and public understanding in Australia.

Having elevated the national discourse on science and technology, championing better science funding and evidence-based policy, she is motivated in her work:

"To support the structures, investments, culture and opportunities to build a thriving, informed, resourced and diverse Australian technology, engineering and science capability.” She added, “Making and applying new knowledge is more important than ever to creating a resilient and hopeful future."

Her unwavering commitment to fostering equity in STEM has been transformative, especially for women and gender diverse peoples. She has played a pivotal role in creating programs that empower underrepresented groups, ensuring that Australia’s science ecosystem is inclusive and reflective of its diverse population.

She explains: "creating opportunity for a range of different people to participate in building the innovations that will shape our world in the next decades … it’s vital that we have a range of perspectives, life experiences, and ways of thinking at the build table. Our future depends on it."

Having made a profound contribution to Australia’s science and innovation sectors, Ms Walker hopes her recognition "enables young people to imagine themselves one day pursuing the same goals."
